Henry Rodriguez RP MIA 20 Days

Henry Rodriguez has accepted an assignment to Triple-A New Orleans.

Rodriguez failed to earn a spot in Miami's bullpen this spring after allowing six runs over nine innings of work. However, it wouldn't be surprising if the hard-throwing right-hander eventually found his way to the big club.

Marlins reassigned RHP Henry Rodriguez, INF Austin Nola, OF Matt Angle, INF Juan Diaz, and RHP Chris Hatcher to minor league camp.

The Marlins made this round of cuts on Thursday morning in camp. Rodriguez had been hoping to earn a spot in the Opening Day bullpen, but the hard-throwing righty yielding six earned runs in nine innings this spring for a Grapefruit League ERA of 6.00.

Henry Rodriguez struck out three in two hitless innings of relief against the Mets on Monday.

After a dismal 2013 with the Nationals and Cubs, the hard-throwing Rodriguez is making a run at a spot in the Marlins pen this spring. He's struck out six and walked one while allowing one run in four innings so far. Since he is on a minor league deal, the most likely scenario has him headed to Triple-A for a bit. However, he could be the first reliever called up by the team.

Rodriguez has been dealing with visa issues but apparently they've been resolved. He'll have time to catch up and compete for a spot in the bullpen.

Henry Rodriguez has yet to report to Marlins' camp due to visa issues.

Fellow non-roster reliever Jesus Sanchez is already dealing with visa problems. Rodriguez is coming off a disappointing season that saw him designated for assignment twice, but he'll have a good shot to crack the Opening Day bullpen if he can get his visa issue sorted out soon.

Cubs acquired RHP Henry Rodriguez from the Nationals in exchange for RHP Ian Dickson.

Rodriguez had been designated for assignment last week. Despite a 5.13 ERA and 1.50 WHIP since the beginning of last season, it's no surprise that it didn't take him long to find another job in the majors, there's always someone willing to take a chance on a guy that can throw 100 mph. Rodriguez figures to work the middle innings initially, but in the Cubs' unstable bullpen, he could find his way to the later frames if he pitches well.

Nationals designated RHP Henry Rodriguez for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Ian Krol on the 40-man roster. Rodriguez has a big arm, but he has walked 16 batters in just 18 innings this season and had a 5.83 ERA in 35 appearances last season. However, someone will presumably take a chance on him.
