X-rays on Ian Desmond's right hand came back clean.

Desmond had to leave Thursday's game after being hit on the hand by a pitch, but it appears he's dodged a bullet. He could sit out a game or two due to soreness, but the shortstop will avoid the disabled lost.

Ian Desmond exited Thursday's game against the Orioles after being hit on the right hand by a pitch.

Desmond initially stayed in the game and tried to play defense the next inning, but he felt too much pain while making warm-up throws. The shortstop figures to undergo an X-ray to make sure he didn't break anything.

Ian Desmond blasted a solo home run, his only hit in four at-bats, as the Nationals won by a 6-2 margin over the Orioles on Wednesday.

Desmond's fourth-inning homer padded the Nats' lead to 4-1 at the time. The shortstop has been swinging the bat better since a late-June slump. He has a .240/.291/.427 slash line with 16 home runs and 54 RBI on the season.

Ian Desmond SS WAS 25 Days

Ian Desmond went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and a solo home run in Wednesday's win over the Rockies.

Desmond had hit the skids offensively, posting a .467 in the 11 games since his last home run. He busted out of the slump, driving in a run with a single in the fourth to cap off a three-run inning, then breaking a 3-3 tie with a solo home run in the seventh. The shortstop now has 15 home runs and 51 RBI, but a mediocre .236/.288/.425 slash line.

Ian Desmond went 2-for-7 with a stolen base in Tuesday's extra-innings win over the Brewers.

Desmond also struck out three times in the game, giving him 92 strikeouts in 292 at-bats this year. The stolen base was his seventh of the year and his second in as many games as he's tried to make up for his offensive shortcomings with some additional speed. Desmond is batting just .236/.293/.425 but with a useful 14 homers on the year.

Ian Desmond went 3-for-5 with a double, triple and five RBI in Monday's win over the Giants.

Don't look now, but Desmond is coming on strong. He's got six extra-base hits -- three homers -- and 10 RBI over his past six games. Owners wish he would make more contact (.238 batting average; career mark of .270) and start running more (four steals; three straight years with at least 20), but nobody will argue if he finishes with 34 homers and 100 RBI. He's on pace to do so after never finishing with more than 25 long flies or 80 RBI.

Ian Desmond went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Desmond has a run scored in five straight games, and it was his second consecutive game with a homer and two RBI. He's got a meager .230 batting average and .299 OBP, but the shortstop is now fourth in the National League in homers with 13.
