Ian Desmond doubled and launched a grand slam in Thursday's win over the Marlins.

Desmond's eighth inning salami broke the game open after the contest had been close all day. It was the Nationals' second eighth-inning grand slam in as many days, as Jayson Werth did the same thing Wednesday. Werth also homered again Thursday with a two-run shot.

Ian Desmond hit a game-winning home run in the seventh inning to give the Nationals a 2-1 win over the Braves on Sunday.

Desmond's second home run of the season, a solo shot off Braves starter Alex Wood to lead off the seventh, was the deciding factor in the low-scoring affair. It was his only hit of the day. The talented shortstop is batting .250 with three RBI for the year.

Ian Desmond went 1-for-4 against the Mets on Wednesday, blasting his first home run of the season.

Desmond took Bartolo Colon deep for a solo homer in the fifth inning. The shortstop has been a leading offensive performer at his position in each of the last two seasons and showed he is planning for a third year with Wednesday's display of power. Jimmy Rollins and Hanley Ramirez are the only other shortstops to have hit at least 20 home runs and to have stolen at least 20 bases in a season since the start of 2010.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that Ian Desmond rejected an offer from the Nationals of a multi-year contract extension worth a reported $90 million.

The offer was believed to be for up to seven years, which would have covered the last two years of Desmond's arbitration and five years on the open market. While it's unknown why he turned down the offer, Heyman notes that he could be seeking something closer to the eight-year $120 million that Elvis Andrus received from the Rangers.

Ian Desmond hit a two-run homer off Max Scherzer in Thursday's victory.

It looks like manager Matt Williams will follow through on the idea of batting Desmond second. Desmond doesn't project as one of the team's better OBP guys, but he's a speedy middle infielder and managers figure they can never go wrong by batting those kinds of guys second. Desmond, who has three homers and four steals this spring, could be a stellar fantasy shortstop while hitting second full-time. He'd just probably help the Nationals more while batting fifth.

Ian Desmond (finger) is expected to return to the Nationals starting lineup on Sunday.

The 28-year-old shortstop has been bothered by a sore finger, but it's believed to be only a minor issue. He'd had a strong spring to this point, hitting .286 (6-for-21) with two homers, three RBI and four steals in eight games.

Ian Desmond went 3-for-3 with a homer and a double against the Braves on Tuesday.

Desmond was hitting second today. He's also spent time batting in the middle of the order this spring. Fifth or sixth is probably where he belongs, given his power and unexceptional (though still solid) on-base percentages. However, because he's a middle infielder and he's pretty fast, there's a good chance Matt Williams will have him batting second to begin the year.

Nationals avoided arbitration with SS Ian Desmond by agreeing to a two-year, $17.5 million contract.

The deal buys out Desmond's final two years of arbitration eligibility. The Nationals have had talks with their shortstop about a long-term deal, but the two sides will settle for the two-year pact for the time being.

Ian Desmond is not in the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman, Adam LaRoche (biceps), Denard Span and Wilson Ramos are also resting on the final day. Anthony Rendon is sliding over to third base while Steve Lombardozzi handles second.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson said that Ian Desmond is dealing with some hamstring tightness.

Desmond is in the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, but it's possible he might sit out the nightcap. However, it doesn't sound like a major concern.
