Bud Norris SP BAL 2 Days

Bud Norris will be available out of the bullpen Wednesday.

The O's have a couple relievers under the weather, so they'll have Norris on call just in case. If he doesn't pitch Wednesday, he'll be in line to start Saturday.

Bud Norris hurled seven shutout innings in the Orioles' extra-innings win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Norris was in line for his first victory but O's closer Tommy Hunter allowed a game-tying home run to Colby Rasmus in the top of the ninth inning. Baltimore eventually rallied in the bottom of the 12th. Norris was sharp, fanning four batters and scattering five hits over his seven scoreless frames. He'll carry an 0-1 record and 3.75 ERA into his next outing Friday at Fenway Park.

Bud Norris took a loss to the Twins after allowing three runs -- two earned -- in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday.

Norris has a nice 2.65 ERA and 15/6 K/BB ratio in 17 innings this spring to firm up his rotation spot. The guess here is that he'll have minimal value in AL-only leagues, at least unless he gets bumped to the pen and emerges as a closer candidate.

Bud Norris gave up three runs -- two earned -- in 1 2/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Yankees.

His own error led to the unearned run. With Ervin Santana choosing Atlanta, Norris still looks like the Orioles' fifth starter. We'd rather see him in the pen, but it's probably not going to happen during April.

Bud Norris pitched three scoreless innings and struck out four as an Orioles split-squad beat a Red Sox split-squad 7-3 on Saturday.

Norris faced just three likely major leaguers (Jackie Bradley Jr., Will Middlebrooks and Mike Carp), but he looked good today. His rotation spot is probably safe if the Orioles miss out on Ervin Santana. If Santana is signed, though, he'd be the most obvious candidate to go to the pen.

Bud Norris started and pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two, Monday against a Twins split-squad.

Norris faced just two likely starters in Trevor Plouffe and Jason Kubel today. Though Norris would be an intriguing closer option for the Orioles, signs point to him sticking in the rotation and opening the season as the fifth starter.

Orioles avoided arbitration with RHP Bud Norris by agreeing to a one-year contract.

The financials aren't available, but MLBTradeRumors.com projected Norris to earn $5 million. Norris posted a 4.18 ERA with 147 strikeouts over 176 2/3 innings for the Astros and Orioles last season. Although the O's have considered using the righty in a late-inning relief role, they appear to have settled on keeping him in the rotation in 2014.

Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have "toyed" with the idea of using Bud Norris as Jim Johnson's replacement at closer.

Encina notes that Norris is still "likely" to be used as a starter, but converting him to reliever is at least a possibility. The righty is essentially a two-pitch pitcher that many have always felt would be much better as a reliever, so it's not a surprise. All but three of Norris' 130 appearances at the big league level have come as a starter.

Bud Norris allowed three runs on seven hits over four innings of a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

The start was Norris' first since September 8 after dealing with elbow soreness over recent weeks, but it was likely his performance that caused him to last just four innings on Wednesday. Norris needed 96 pitches to get through four, allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out five. The right-hander's season ends at 10-12 with a 4.18 ERA.

Bud Norris (elbow) is expected to rejoin the Orioles' rotation on Wednesday.

It's possible the O's will go with Jason Hammel again, but Norris' elbow is feeling better and he's ready to toe the rubber. The right-hander hasn't started a game since September 8 due to elbow soreness but threw 2 1/3 relief innings on Friday.
