Blanco signed a minor league deal with the Phillies on Thursday, Jim Salisbury of CSN reports. The deal includes a spring training invitation.

Blanco, who was outrighted by the Phillies in October and ended up declining his assignment, instead electing for free agency. He'll return to the Phillies as a non-roster invite and will likely end up back at Triple-A, where he spent the majority of last season. The 30-year-old appeared in 25 games for the big league club, hitting a respectable .277/.306/.447 with three RBI.

Blanco played the majority of last season in Triple-A, though he only played in 70 total games last season. With the Phillies, the 30-year-old hit .277/.306/.447 with a home run and three RBI over 25 games. He will take his chances in the open market this offseason.

In other words, the Phillies are considering him as a possible backup shortstop. Reid Brignac and Cesar Hernandez are the alternatives.

Blanco didn't pick up a contract from a different organization in 2013, so he's decided to re-join his former team.
