Royals sent C Brett Hayes outright to Triple-A Omaha.
Hayes was beaten out by George Kottaras for the Royals' backup catcher job, but he has cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. He batted .306/.375/.556 with two homers and 10 RBI this spring.

Royals and C Brett Hayes avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $600,000 contract.
With Brayan Pena out of the picture, Hayes looks likely to open the 2013 season as the primary backup to starting catcher Salvador Perez. Hayes, 28, batted .202/.229/.254 in 39 games this past season for the Marlins.

Hayes has put up a .217/.266/.361 batting line over parts of four big league seasons, but he's pretty good defensively. The Royals have some catching depth, though, so he could wind up at Triple-A.

Hayes hit just .202/.229/.254 over 39 contests in his time with the Fish this year. With John Buck and Rob Brantly likely to handle the catching duties next year, he'll probably return to New Orleans to start 2013.

Brett Hayes launched a two-run homer in Sunday's loss to the Nationals.
The blast in the seventh inning KO'd Nats starter Chien-Ming Wang. It's the fourth longball in 122 at-bats on the year for the backup catcher. Needless to say, he doesn't belong on your fantasy roster.
