Twins sent RHP P.J. Walters outright to Triple-A Rochester.

The Twins cut six players from their 40-man roster on Wednesday and none were all that surprising. Walters, 27, had a 5.69 ERA and 42/22 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings over 12 starts with the big club this year.

P.J. Walters pitched well in a loss to the Tigers on Saturday, yielding just two runs on four hits over five innings.

Walters racked up five strikeouts while issuing only one walk. All of the damage came in the second inning, when Prince Fielder blasted a solo homer and Jhonny Peralta added an RBI double. Walters will finish the season with a 2-5 record, 5.69 ERA and 42/22 K/BB ratio in 61 2/3 innings of work.

P.J. Walters turned in a decent effort in a no-decision against the Indians on Tuesday, surrendering four runs (two earned) on eight hits over five-plus innings.

Walters fanned three and issued one free pass on the night. He carried a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning where a pair of unearned runs put him on the hook for the loss. He's struggled to find any sort of consistency through his first nine starts, and will carry an unimpressive 2-4 record and 6.39 ERA into Sunday's start against the Tigers in Detroit.

P.J. Walters is likely to start Wednesday against the White Sox.

Walters was activated from the DL Saturday after missing two and a half months with shoulder issues. The Twins could use a seven-man rotation down the stretch, with Esmerling Vasquez also getting a shot. "This is the one opportunity where you could possibly go to a six-man or even seven-man [rotation] if you deemed it necessary," general manager Terry Ryan said. "We're bringing up two starting pitchers, Vasquez and Walters, and we're certainly interested in how they responded."

Twins activated RHP P.J. Walters from the 60-day disabled list.

Walters, out since June 14 with right shoulder inflammation, was cleared to return after making six rehab appearances. He could be an option for the Twins' rotation, but is doubtful to hold any fantasy value.
