White Sox recall LHP Donnie Veal from Triple-A Charlotte.
With Matt Thornton getting dealt to the Red Sox, there is a clear opening for a left-handed reliever on the roster, and Veal is the best in-house option that the White Sox have. The 28-year-old has posted an 8.59 ERA and 2.73 WHIP in 7 1/3 innings with the White Sox this season.

The White Sox are expected to call up left-hander Donnie Veal from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.
Veal struggled with the White Sox earlier this season, but hasn't allowed a run in four appearances (eight innings) at the Triple-A level. The 28-year-old will provide bullpen depth as a left-handed specialist.

Donnie Veal notched his first career save in Monday's win over the Indians.
Matt Thornton started the ninth inning for the Sox with a two-run lead and two lefties and a switch-hitter due up. The Sox had to turn to Veal after Thornton allowed a couple singles and an RBI double, and Veal got Jason Kipnis to ground out to win it. Addison Reed was nowhere to be found, as it's clear the Sox are going with matchups in the ninth inning at this point.

White Sox optioned LHP Donnie Veal to Triple-A Charlotte.
Veal, a 27-year-old southpaw, only last four days with the club. He returns to a 2.03 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 43 1/3 innings for Charlotte. Veal has struggled with command despite his success, walking 21. He should be near the front of the line the next time Chicago needs a bullpen arm.
