Blue Jays sent LHP Ricky Romero outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

He's now again been removed from the 40-man roster. Romero posted an 11.05 ERA and 2.59 WHIP across 7 1/3 innings for the Jays this season. He'll get a spring training invite but is a longshot to make the Opening Day roster.

Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said Thursday morning that Ricky Romero will likely be removed from the 40-man roster again this offseason.

Romero was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, but he hasn't been used yet and will probably only see mop-up appearances down the stretch. "Very good chance he comes off of the roster in the offseason," Anthopoulos told 590 The Fan in Toronto. "I told him that ahead of time, just for the 40-man spot. He'll come in next spring, he'll come in and compete and hopefully he'll start fresh and he can get it turned around."

Blue Jays purchased the contract of LHP Ricky Romero from Triple-A Buffalo.

Romero has been terrible in his time in the majors this season and hasn't been much better at Triple-A, holding a 5.78 ERA over 22 starts. He'll be used in long relief for now, but it's possible the Jays will give him a start or two this month.

Ricky Romero gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits and six walks over 6 1/3 innings with Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

Romero now has a 5.88 ERA and 80/62 K/BB ratio in 108 2/3 innings over 21 starts in Triple-A this season. The Blue Jays want to see more consistency, so he's far from a lock to be a September call-up.

Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos hasn't ruled out the possibility that Ricky Romero could return to the majors before September.

Romero still owns a brutal 6.89 ERA through 10 starts at Triple-A to go along with a 27/34 K/BB ratio in 47 innings, but he has a 3.45 ERA over his last five starts. Still, Anthopoulos wants to see more consistency before bringing him back to the majors. "From a consistency standpoint, you want to see him have the results he needs to have at that level, start after start," said Anthopoulos. "So I want to see him do it for awhile." Could he be back before September callups? "Sure, if he's performs well and he's doing great and we have a need up here."

Ricky Romero allowed just one (unearned) run over seven innings Wednesday at Triple-A Buffalo.

Romero tossed six scoreless innings last time out and has begun to settle down after a rocky first few weeks in the Buffalo rotation. The left-hander will try to work his way back up to the majors at some point this season.

Ricky Romero allowed eight runs on five hits and three walks over just 2/3 of an inning in Monday's start at Triple-A Buffalo.

Just 13 of his 32 pitches were thrown for strikes. After lasting just 1/3 of an inning in a start with the Blue Jays earlier this month, Romero has now posted a 13.85 ERA and 3/20 K/BB ratio over 13 Triple-A innings. The Jays have to either send him to the bullpen or back to extended spring training at this point.

Ricky Romero allowed three runs -- two earned -- over 3 2/3 innings Wednesday for Triple-A Buffalo.

It was another disastrous outing for Romero, who issued six walks and yielded four hits before being lifted in the fourth inning. He surrendered six earned runs in his first start last week for Triple-A Buffalo. The left-hander may need to head back to High-A ball.

Ricky Romero allowed six earned runs over 3 2/3 innings Saturday in his first start for Triple-A Buffalo.

Romero was optioned to the Triple-A level last Thursday after posting a 12.46 ERA and 2.77 WHIP in two starts with Toronto. The 28-year-old lefty is a mess right now.
