Mets signed C Landon Powell to a minor league contract.

He's been given an invitation to spring training but has little shot to crack the Opening Day roster. Powell batted .251/.353/.377 at Triple-A for the Astros last season.

Astros signed C Landon Powell to a minor league contract.

He'll report to major league camp. Powell, who was released by the Athletics last week, has an ugly .207/.284/.328 batting line over 406 plate appearances in the big leagues. The 29-year-old should serve as minor league depth for now.

Athletics released C Landon Powell.

Powell was outrighted off the 40-man roster back in January, and now is out of the organization. The 29-year-old catcher is now free to seek employment elsewhere.

Athletics sent C Landon Powell outright to Triple-A Sacramento.

Powell was designated for assignment in late December but passed through waivers with ease. The 29-year-old catcher will act as catching depth for the A's in 2012.

Landon Powell has cleared waivers.

Powell was designated for assignment by the A's last month and drew no interest from other teams on the waiver wire. He's likely to accept a spot at Triple-A.

Athletics designated C Landon Powell for assignment.

As expected. Powell has an ugly .207/.284/.328 batting line over 406 plate appearances in the big leagues, but he has also thrown out 29 of 73 (39.7 percent) attempted basestealers. The 29-year-old backstop could draw some interest.

Landon Powell told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that he has been designated for assignment.

The move hasn't been officially announced by the team, but he will be cleared to make room for the A's new acquisitions in the Gio Gonzalez deal. Powell, who turns 30 in March, batted just .171/.246/.225 with one home run, four RBI and a .471 OPS over 122 plate appearances at the major-league level this season. He has thrown out 29 of 73 (39.7 percent) attempted basestealers during his career.
