Zobrist's contract option for 2014 was exercised by the Rays on Friday, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Zobrist tallied 10 home runs and 52 RBI for the Rays over 146 games in 2014 while turning in a .272/.354/.395 batting line. He will make $7.5 million with the club in 2015.

Zobrist is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Indians, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

The Rays' super-utility player will find himself in an unfamiliar spot on the season's final day: the bench. His will finish with his lowest RBI total since 2008, but, assuming his season is over, he still put up a .749 OPS and posted a 5.0 WAR.

Zobrist went 2-for-5 with one RBI Monday against the Yankees.

Zobrist won the game in the bottom of the ninth for the Rays in what was a scoreless game heading into the inning. He has hit well of late as he is 5-for-13 with one home run, two RBI and two runs scored over his last three games.

Zobrist went 1-for-5 with a single and one run scored in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Yankees.

Zobrist reached a respectable milestone in Wednesday's contest, as the versatile veteran's first-inning single gave him 1,000 hits for his MLB career. Zobrist has put together a decent September so far, posting a .364 OBP with five runs scored while serving as the leadoff man in all of the Rays' nine games this month.

Zobrist is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

In considering Zobrist's immense struggles against opposing starter Clay Buchholz (4-for-36 over his career), manager Joe Maddon decided it would be an opportune time to give his utility man a day off. Zobrist had been in the lineup for every game since June 20.

Zobrist went 2-for-3 with two walks and RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's loss to the Tigers.

Zobrist's power and stolen base totals have predictably tailed off in his age-33 season, but he's retained some value in the fantasy game for his versatility and on-base skills. He's been especially excellent for the Rays in the second half, slashing .315/.392/.472 since the All-Star break.

Ben Zobrist went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI double in Tuesday's win over the Brewers.

Zobrist got the Rays on the board with his solo shot in the sixth inning, and he gave them the lead in the eighth with his RBI double. The homer was his ninth of the season, and Zobrist has scored nine runs in his last 10 games. After a slow start to the year, the 33-year-old has his line up to a respectable .271/.361/.421.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Giants "remain interested" in trading for Ben Zobrist.

The Giants don't exactly have a loaded farm system and gave up two good young pitchers to acquire Jake Peavy last week, but it seems they're ready to go all-in (so to speak) as they try to keep pace with the Dodgers in the National League West. Zobrist, 33, has hit .268/.358/.409 in 403 plate appearances this season for Tampa Bay. He could play all around the field for San Francisco.

Ben Zobrist went 4-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored Friday against the Red Sox.

Only one of Zobrist's four hits left the infield, but the one that did tied the game in the seventh inning. The Rays would eventually take the lead in the frame, which they wouldn't relinquish. Zobrist, like David Price, has seen his name surface in trade rumors over the past few weeks, but a deal appears unlikely now that the Rays have turned things around in a hurry.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Mariners' trade talks with the Rays have revolved more around Ben Zobrist than David Price.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reported earlier Thursday that the two clubs were discussing a deal involving both players, but Heyman hears that Zobrist "has been the main focus of the talks, with those discussions going on for weeks." Heyman doesn't dismiss the possibility of the M's going after Price (they were linked to him over the offseason), but it sounds like he might be on the back burner for now. According to Heyman, Nick Franklin's name has been involved in the Zobrist discussions.
