Javier Vazquez SP MIA 5 Months
According to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN, Twins assistant GM Rob Antony gave the impression that the Twins did not attend Javier Vasquez's tryout in Puerto Rico on Friday.
Antony also made it sound like making a big move for a starter, such as Shawn Marcum or Joe Saunders, wasn't going to happen. Barring an upgrade, the Twins will head into spring training with Vance Worley, Scott Diamond and Kevin Correia as the top three pitchers in their rotation.

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports heard from a scout on Thursday that Javier Vazquez "physically looks great."
The scout thinks Vazquez, a free agent, could be a "sneaky good pickup" for some team. The Red Sox are expected to give him a look on Friday in the Puerto Rican Winter League and the Nationals scouted him last week. Vazqeuz, 36, did not pitch professionally in 2012. He currently owns a 4.22 career ERA and a 1.25 career WHIP.

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox will be among the teams to scout Javier Vazquez during his Puerto Rican Winter League start Friday.
Vazquez, 36, is considering a return to the majors in 2013 after sitting out the 2012 campaign, though he won't make a decision until after the World Baseball Classic. The veteran right-hander went 13-11 with a 3.69 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 162/50 K/BB ratio over 192 2/3 innings with the Marlins in 2011 and should draw interest from multiple teams if he indeed decides to make a comeback.

Javier Vazquez told ESPNDeportes.com that he's considering making a comeback this season.
This was first reported by MLB Network's Peter Gammons last month. Vazquez never officially retired and is interested in pitching for a contender this season, but doesn't plan on making any decisions until after the World Baseball Classic. The 36-year-old right-hander went 13-11 with a 3.69 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 162/50 K/BB ratio over 192 2/3 innings with the Marlins in 2011, and should draw interest from multiple teams if he decides to return.

According to Peter Gammons of MLB network, Javier Vazquez is mulling a potential comeback to Major League Baseball.
Vazquez went 13-11 with a 3.69 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 162/50 K/BB ratio over 192 2/3 innings with the Marlins in 2011 before deciding to hang 'em up. He'll pitch for Ponce in the Puerto Rico Professional Baseball League after Thanksgiving, then for Puerto Rico during the World Baseball Classic, and use them as a gauge to see if he wants to come back. If so, he'll undoubtedly have plenty of suitors waiting.

Javier Vazquez said Monday that he isn't officially retired, but has no intention of pitching this season.
"I want to leave the door open in case I want to play, but right now I don't see myself playing," said Vazquez. "For me to be ready in July or sometime in the summer, I'd have to start throwing soon. Right now, I don't have any desire." Vazquez had a 1.92 ERA over his final 19 starts last season, but passed over the opportunity for a lucrative contract in order to spend time with his family. The 35-year-old right-hander hasn't ruled out the possibility of pitching for his native Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic next year, but a comeback in MLB is unlikely.

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Marlins were "absolutely, positively convinced" that Javier Vazquez was retiring before agreeing to trade for Carlos Zambrano.
Vazquez finished 2011 with a 1.92 ERA and 115/19 K/BB ratio over 126 2/3 innings in his final 19 starts, but he said right after the season that he was leaning toward retirement. The Marlins were hoping to convince him otherwise, but switching gears and taking a risk on Zambrano would seem to indicate that he's going to call it a career. The 35-year-old right-hander has a 4.22 ERA and 165 wins over 14 seasons in the big leagues.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, Javier Vazquez is "50-50" on whether he'll play in 2012.
Vazquez has hinted about the possibility of retirement, but he would consider continuing his career under the right circumstances. According to Rosenthal, he has a strong preference to remain on the East Coast in order to be closer in proximity to his family in Puerto Rico. The veteran right-hander is expected to make a decision on his future by December.

The Marlins are hoping that 35-year-old righty Javier Vazquez will put off retirement another year.
Vazquez dazzled down the stretch, going 5-0 with a 0.71 ERA in September to even out a roller coaster season. He's hinted all year that he might retire in order to spend more time with his family in Puerto Rico, but perhaps the Marlins can sway his decision with a sizable offer. Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post thinks a one-year, $10 million contract might get it done.

Javier Vazquez will decide by December whether or not he is retiring.
He certainly showed that he has plenty left in the tank, as Vazquez held an ERA of 7.09 ERA after his June 11 outing before going on a remarkable run to wind up with a 3.69 mark. If the 35-year-old does decide to return, he'll be one of the more sought after pitchers on the market.
