With Anthony Rizzo (back) on the shelf, Valbuena has been positioned in the heart of the order for the Cubs in recent weeks. He's now hitting .247/.328/.445 on the year, but it's likely that he's auditioning for a role elsewhere in 2015 as the Cubs have a slew of younger options pounding on the door for big league roster spots.

Luis Valbuena 2B/3B CHC 2 Months's Peter Gammons reports that the Athletics and Giants are "sifting through" potential options at second base, including Luis Valbuena, Asdrubal Cabrera, Aaron Hill, Martin Prado and Gordon Beckham.

With Chase Utley not expected to be traded, the above group is the best of the lot for contenders looking to upgrade at second base. Of the five, only Hill and Beckham list second as their main position. However, all have plenty of experience at the keystone. The D'Backs appear much more willing to deal Hill than Prado.
