Making his first start in three games, Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored against the Astros on Thursday.

Ichiro played right field today with Carlos Beltran DHing and Brett Gardner getting a day against a lefty. It could be a rather common arrangement, since Ichiro has always hit lefties rather well and the Yankees do want to get him into the mix a couple of times per week in case they end up needing him on a more regular basis.

Ichiro isn't hitting anything hard so far, and he's done nothing to increase any demand for his services in trade talks. He doesn't figure to have much fantasy value as the Yankees' fourth outfielder.

Ichiro Suzuki told Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com that he plans to play "many" more seasons.

"Retirement from baseball is something I haven't even thought about," the 40-year-old said. When asked how many more seasons he could play, Ichiro replied, "not just a few. Many. For me, I feel there's no reason for me to retire right now." Suzuki has hit just .273/.305/.356 over the last three seasons, though he has remained very durable. A free agent after the season, Ichiro would surely have to accept a backup role at a modest salary if he plans to continue playing.
