Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that he considers Nate Schierholtz his starting right fielder for 2012.

The Giants are still interested in bringing Carlos Beltran back, but Schierholtz would be the most likely option if he signs elsewhere. Schierholtz, 26, batted .278/.326/.430 with nine homers, 41 RBI, seven stolen bases and a .756 OPS over 362 plate appearances this season. He was shut down earlier this month with a broken right foot, but is expected to be ready for spring training. Keep him in mind in NL-only leagues.

Nate Schierholtz (foot) hopes to remove his protective boot and take batting practice before the season is over.

Schierholtz hasn't played since August 21 due to a hairline fracture in his right foot. Giants manager Bruce Bochy hasn't ruled out the possibility that he could return during the final home series of the season, but that all depends on how much progress he makes in the coming days.

Nate Schierholtz (foot) will miss at least another week after seeing a specialist on Friday.

Not good news for a player who was expected to return Tuesday. Schierholtz has been out since August with a hairline fracture. The 27-year-old outfielder has hit a respectable .278/.326/.430 over 335 AB this season.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Nate Schierholtz (foot) should at least be available to pinch-hit when he's eligible to come off the disabled list on Tuesday.

It could be a little longer than that when he's cleared to play defense. Schierholtz has been out since late August with a hairline fracture in his foot.

Nate Schierholtz (foot) is likely to be placed on the disabled list Saturday.

Not surprising, as the Giants need to clear a spot on the roster for Eric Surkamp, and Schierholtz was likely headed to the DL on Sunday when Andres Torres came back, anyway. He'll be back at some point after the rosters expand.

Nate Schierholtz (foot) could be placed on the 15-day disabled list this weekend.

Schierholtz has been trying to play through a hairline fracture in his right foot, but it hasn't gone too well. The Giants will need to clear a spot on their 25-man roster and in their outfield when Andres Torres (leg contusion) is activated on Sunday. Giving Schierholtz an extended amount of rest would make sense.

Nate Schierholtz (foot) will throw and hit off a tee before Wednesday's game.

Schierholtz will attempt to play through a hairline fracture in his right foot, but he'll sit out the next few days. He's wearing a boot on the foot in an effort to alleviate pressure but will just take it off when he goes through workouts.

Nate Schierholtz said following Tuesday's game that he will attempt to play through a fracture in his right foot.

The fracture was diagnosed Monday following an MRI and confirmed in a CT scan. Schierholtz initially suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his foot last Monday. He plans to rest for a couple of days before rejoining the lineup, saying that the fracture is in a "good spot" and that he risks no further injury by playing.
