Sanchez had been with the independent league Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. A four-year major league veteran, Sanchez will report to Double-A Chattanooga.

Angel Sanchez has signed with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the independent Atlantic League.

Sanchez, a .254/.303/.307 career hitter in 630 plate appearances at the major league level, failed to receive an offer this spring or early summer from an MLB-affiliated club. The 30-year-old infielder was an 11th-round pick of the Royals in the 2011 Amateur Draft.

Sanchez, a Rule 5 pick, has been on the disabled list for a little over a month with a lower back strain and is seven games into a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. If he goes unclaimed, he will be offered back to the Angels.
