CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the White Sox have placed infielder Angel Sanchez (back) on waivers.

Sanchez, a Rule 5 pick, has been on the disabled list for a little over a month with a lower back strain and is seven games into a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. If he goes unclaimed, he will be offered back to the Angels.

The deal includes an invite to spring training. Sanchez, 29, hit .320 in 107 games with the Astros' Triple-A affiliate last season. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2010 as a member of the Red Sox.

Angel Sanchez (back) had been scheduled to make his spring debut Sunday before the game was rained out.

Sanchez has been dealing with a tight back this spring after slipping and falling while taking his mother's luggage down a flight of stairs in early-February. The Astros' Opening Day shortstop last season, he's hoping to win a bench spot as a utilityman for 2012.
