Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that Sergio Romo has been removed from the closer role.

Santiago Casilla and Jeremy Affeldt will receive the save chances for now. Romo blew his fifth save of the season Saturday and has allowed 15 runs in his last 15 innings. There's a good chance the 31-year-old will eventually get his job back, but for now Casilla and Affeldt will be getting the ball in the ninth inning.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy after Saturday's game wouldn't confirm whether Sergio Romo is still his closer.

Romo blew another save chance Saturday and has allowed 15 runs in his last 15 innings. "Oh, I don't know," Bochy said. "I won't answer it now. It's something I'm sure we'll talk about here tomorrow. He's done such a good job for us. I know everybody has their moments. If we have to tweak it, we'll tweak it. This is not the time to talk about it." Ultimately, the Giants seem likely to stick with Romo given how successful he's been over the last few years. However, Santiago Casilla should be scooped up just in case.

Sergio Romo took his third blown save in five chances and fifth overall Saturday after giving up two runs in the ninth against the Reds.

Romo hasn't really gotten consistent work lately, but then, he's not typically one who has needed it to stay sharp. He walked Joey Votto and gave up a homer to Brandon Phillips in the ninth tonight. It's possible the Giants could consider lifting him from the closer's role with his ERA up to 5.17. If so, Santiago Casilla would be next in line. Still, it seems more likely that they'll give Romo at least one more chance to save his job.

Sergio Romo came on in relief of Madison Bumgarner in the ninth inning to close out the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

An error and a hit left two on with nobody out for Romo, who allowed an inherited run to score before slamming the door. Romo had a tough couple of games against the Rockies in mid-June, but he's turned in two straight scoreless innings the past two days. He's still not as dominant as he had been prior to the rough patch, and he may benefit from a few days' rest over the upcoming All-Star break.

Sergio Romo took his fourth blown save of the season Saturday in the Giants' loss to the Rockies.

Romo also blew a save on Friday night -- allowing five runs in that particular disaster. He gave up two runs Saturday on a Charlie Blackmon single and a Brandon Barnes inside-the-park homer that scooted past Giants center fielder Angel Pagan. Romo has a rough 5.08 ERA on the season, but there's been no indication yet that a change is coming.

Sergio Romo gave up five runs in the ninth Friday to take a blown save and a loss against the Rockies.

There was more intentional walk goodness in this one, as Corey Dickerson was given a free pass with one down and runners on second and third in a 4-2 game in the ninth. The Rockies scored five runs from there, the last two coming after Romo was replaced. The blown save was Romo's third in 23 chances and second to result in a loss. Both of those losses have come versus the Rockies.

Sergio Romo picked up save number 18 with a perfect ninth inning in Wednesday's win over the Reds.

Romo tied Padres closer Huston Street for the MLB lead in saves. His outing on Wednesday ended a run of three consecutive outings in which he allowed a run. It's been an uncharacteristically mediocre season for Romo, as he has a 3.38 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP, but has already allowed four home runs and walked five in 24 innings, putting him on pace to surpass his respective career-highs of six and 14.

Sergio Romo narrowly escaped with his 17th save as the Giants defeated the Cardinals 6-5 on Thursday.

Tasked with preserving a two-run lead, Romo put runners on first and second base with two outs before allowing a run-scoring single to Matt Carpenter to make it 6-5. Romo was able to get Shane Robinson to weakly pop up to third base to end the frame, however, cinching his 17th save of the season. Romo has been much more hittable this season than in seasons past, now carrying a 3.52 ERA with a pedestrian -- by his standards -- 19/5 K/BB ratio in 23 innings.

Sergio Romo worked around a one-out single to convert his 15th save of the season in Sunday's win over the Marlins.

Despite raising some eyebrows with a markedly lower strikeout rate dating back to last season, Romo has been getting the job done for the Giants. His 15 saves are second-best in baseball, and he carries a 2.21 ERA with an 0.64 WHIP and a 17/3 K/BB ratio in 20 1/3 innings.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Giants and closer Sergio Romo have agreed to hold off on contract talks, likely until the end of the season.

Romo, an impending free agent, is making $5.5 million this year in his final season of arbitration. The 31-year-old is a perfect 10-for-10 in save chances so far this year and owns a 1.88 ERA and 12/3 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 innings. If he can stay healthy, he'll command a big contract this winter.
