Gomes (knee) was activated from the 15-day disabled list and will return to the lineup Sunday against the Reds, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. He'll serve as the catcher and bat seventh in the order.

The Indians designated Brett Hayes for assignment to clear a roster spot for Gomes, who wrapped up a four-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Columbus with four hits and a walk across 15 plate appearances. He'll now suit up with the Indians for the first time since April 11, and will be immediately reinstalled as the club's everyday catcher. Gomes put himself on the map with 21 homers and a .278 average last season, and should be one of the more valuable fantasy contributors at his position over the remainder of 2015.

Gomes (knee) will come off the disabled list to start Sunday's game against the Reds, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Gomes is scheduled to catch nine innings for Triple-A Columbus on Friday, and he'll then return from his six-week absence. It's possible his workload will be somewhat limited for the next week or two, but the Indians still figure to demote either Roberto Perez or Brett Hayes.

Gomes (knee) is close to being activated, but manager Terry Francona said it probably would not happen until he catches a nine-inning game for Triple-A Columbus, the Northeast Ohio Media Group's Paul Hoynes reports.

He is scheduled to catch seven innings Wednesday after catching five innings Monday, so it's possible he could follow up Wednesday's appearance by catching nine innings this weekend. Look for him to rejoin the Indians by the end of the month, but do not expect Gomes to see a typical starting catcher's weekly workload right away.

Gomes (knee) is scheduled to make another Triple-A rehab appearance Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Gomes is expected to play five innings Monday night, rest Tuesday, then play seven innings Wednesday night for Triple-A Columbus. Five weeks into a six-to-eight-week timetable, Gomes is expected back soon, though he remains without a firm return date. "A lot of it depends how he feels," manager Terry Francona said. "He doesn't have to go back-to-back games. As long as he's healthy, that's the biggest thing." Francona also hinted that the Indians may bring Gomes back before he's ready to start every day. "As long as he's healthy, we can activate him," Francona said. "Having him catch three times a week is better than not."

Gomes (knee) will move his rehab to Triple-A Columbus on Monday.

Gomes appeared in two games with Low-A Lake County over the weekend, going 2-for-4 with a walk. He's expected to start at catcher Monday night for Columbus, and may only need a couple of games with the affiliate before the Indians activate him from the disabled list.

Gomes (knee) could head out on a rehab assignment by the end of the week depending on how he responds to an extensive workout he completed Tuesday, MLB.com reports. "I don't want to put a date on it yet, just because that's not fair to him," manager Terry Francona said. "With the DH thing, it may be sooner [than next week], but a lot of it's going to depend on how he comes through today, because it's a pretty active day. And then, we'll just go from there."

The Indians are open to the notion that Gomes could be eased back into things by working him into the DH spot a couple of times upon his return. He could head out on a rehab assignment by the end of the week if things go well.

Gomes has made excellent progress in his rehab program so far but Tuesday will definitely be his biggest test to date. If things go exceedingly well he could head out on a rehab assignment shortly thereafter.
