Davis (elbow) is expected to go to Arizona to throw some live bullpen sessions early next week, MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan reports.

EDGE Analysis

It remains to be seen how many live bullpen sessions Davis will need, or what the next step will be, as he could conceivably return to the Royals without a rehab assignment. For now Kelvin Herrera will continue to act as the Royals' closer, but the team still hopes to get Davis back before the end of the season.

Davis (elbow) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

He said he felt fine after completing the session, his first since landing on the DL at the end of July with a flexor strain in his pitching elbow. Davis has been ramping up on flat ground over the past week and may need just one additional side session before being cleared to face live hitters. The Royals expect to get their close back before the end of the month.

Davis (elbow) is expected to rejoin the Royals before the end of August, Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star reports. "He's feeling better," manager Ned Yost said. "He's totally symptom-free, playing catch, extending it out."

EDGE Analysis

Davis was placed on the DL with a retroactive date of July 28 due to a right forearm strain, a recurrence of the same injury that sidelined him earlier in the season. The Royals have been taking a more conservative approach with their closer's recovery this time around. Since he's already throwing off flat ground, Davis will need to progress to a bullpen session before facing hitters in batting practice and then perhaps embarking on a rehab assignment.

Davis has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a flexor strain in his pitching elbow.

EDGE Analysis

One of the elite closers in baseball, Davis labored in his last appearance, allowing two runs on three walks and two hits. The elbow issue likely played a role in these struggles, and the 30-year-old was sent for an MRI on Friday. He's already had a stint on the disabled list this year due to a forearm injury, making the issue even more concerning but the team has backdated his current stint to July 27, allowing him to return as soon as August 12. The Royals recalled left-handed reliever Matt Strahm from Double-A Northwest Arkansas to take his place on the 25-man roster.

Davis is on his way back to Kansas City to undergo an MRI on his elbow, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.

EDGE Analysis

This is certainly a troubling development, as the arm issues have reared their ugly head again just two weeks after Davis' return, but fantasy owners have no choice but to wait and see what is revealed in the MRI. Davis turned in four straight scoreless appearances initially upon his reinstatement from the DL, but he struggled in his last appearance, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks. Joakim Soria and Kelvin Herrera will be the top candidates to close in Davis' absence.

Davis worked around a hit and struck out one en route to his 21st save of the season Friday against the Rangers.

EDGE Analysis

Davis, who has made 88 career starts in his eight-year career, had just 20 saves total entering the season. He's now got more than that in 2016 alone, as the veteran has converted 21 of his 23 chances to close the door on opponents.

Davis picked up a one-out save, his 20th, in Monday's win over Cleveland.

EDGE Analysis

Davis's first save opportunity since returning from the disabled list was an easy one, as he cleaned up Chris Young's mess in the ninth with just three pitches. He now owns a 1.17 ERA and is a sharp 20-for-22 in save opportunities.

Davis (forearm) was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

The Royals get a major boost in the back end of the bullpen with the return of one of the game's best closers. Davis landed on the DL in early July due to a forearm issue that has bothered him in the past. However, it only took a few days of being shut down from throwing for the issue to subside. To bring Davis back to the active roster, the Royals optioned Brooks Pounders back to Triple-A Omaha.

Davis (forearm) could be activated as soon as Saturday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The right-hander was said to be pain-free just days after landing on the DL, and while he won't return for the first game of the second half, it sounds like Davis will be activated in short order. Davis' strikeouts are down and his walks are up from a year ago, with his FIP coming in at more than double his ERA (2.70), but he's the unquestioned closer in Kansas City and still one of the more valuable closers in fantasy baseball.

Davis was able to throw a baseball Thursday and Friday with no pain, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Davis also noted that the inflammation in his forearm that put him on the disabled list is gone. Assuming all continues to go well in his recovery, Davis is slated to return to his closer's role at some point shortly after the All-Star break.
