Vincent struck out two batters in one inning pitched in Wednesday's loss to the Astros.

Competitive Edge Analysis

At a glance, Vincent's 2016 ERA of 1.93 and 0.43 WHIP would lead one to believe that he is having a very strong season. However, in only 9.1 innings pitched, he has already given up two home runs. This is very unlike Vincent, who has never had a HR/9 greater than 0.82. If he can get back to limiting the amount of home runs he allows, Vincent's ability to strike batters out while not allowing many walks will be valuable to the Mariners.

Vincent was traded to the Mariners on Wednesday for a player to be named later, the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Vincent is now even further away from a chance at getting saves, as he moves from a below-average Padres bullpen to a Mariners bullpen with intriguing arms like Joaquin Benoit and Tony Zych behind closer Steve Cishek. He will be added to the Mariners' 40-man roster, as he is out of options, and will likely take the ball in mid-leverage spots.

Although Vincent has a 6.43 ERA this spring, he looks set to be a top setup man in the bullpen, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Vincent hasn't been mentioned in the closer mix (where Fernando Rodney begins the season with the role and Kevin Quackenbush behind him), but it's possible he could get saves at some point. More than likely he'll be a key late innings reliever. His 8.6 K/9 last season point to him becoming an impact reliever, but he'll need to reduce his walks after a 3.9 BB/9 last season.

Vincent will return to the Padres for the third time this season, filling the roster spot of Jedd Gyorko, who was optioned to El Paso on Wednesday. Vincent, who was last up with the Padres at the start of May, has allowed five earned runs on 13 hits (6.14 ERA) in 7.1 innings for the Padres this season. He's fared much better at Triple-A, where he holds a 3.32 EAR over 21.2 innings.

Vincent will be optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

With the Padres activating Shawn Kelley off the disabled list Friday, they have decided to option Vincent to their Triple-A affiliate in a corresponding move. Vincent allowed two earned runs in one inning of work Thursday to raise his ERA to 6.14 on the season.

Vincent was recalled by the Padres on Friday,'s Corey Brock reports.

He got off to a bit of a rough start and was sent to Triple-A earlier in the season, but his velocity is where it was last year so there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with him. If Vincent's numbers from 2014 (2.77 FIP and 62 strikeouts in 55 innings) are any indication, he should be able to settle in as a key member of the Padres' bullpen over the rest of the season.

Vincent was optioned to the minor leagues Friday, the Union-Tribune's Dennis Lin reports.

Vincent has pitched in three games already this season, so he was likely unavailable Friday and Saturday anyway. He had a 2.77 FIP and a 28.8 percent K-rate in 2014 and should be back up with the Padres in the near future.

Vincent is yet to allow a run over his 5.2 innings of work this spring. He has struck out eight batters and walked two and carries a 1.24 WHIP.

Vincent figures to be one of the main right-handed specialists in the Padres' bullpen corps with Joaquin Benoit and Kevin Quackenbush slated to be the closer and set-up men. He has a solid K:BB ratio, but is a bit prone to home runs as a flyball pitcher.
