Schierholtz agreed to a one-year contract with the Hiroshima Carp and will play in Japan, the Japan Times reports.

Schierholtz failed to make Texas' 25-man roster this spring, so he'll play overseas instead.

Schierholtz was released by the Rangers on Saturday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Upon learning that he would not make the major league roster out of camp, Schierholtz seemingly asked out of his minor league deal, and the Rangers obliged. The 31-year-old Schierholtz struggled in Cactus League play this spring, going 9-for-34 with seven strikeouts, two walks and zero extra-base hits.

Schierholtz has been told he won't make the Rangers' roster out of camp, the Fort Worth Star Telegram's Stefan Stevenson reports.

He lost out on the competition for the left field spot, which is one of the weaker starting spots in all of baseball, considering Jake Smolinski and Ryan Rua will be featured there. Schierholtz will now spend most of 2015 in Triple-A after signing a minor league deal with Texas this offseason.

Schierholtz remains in the competition for the open left field spot despite just 10 at-bats this spring, the team's web site reports.

Schierholtz battled some shoulder soreness early in the spring that limited him early on, but he remains part of a wide-open competition with less than three weeks before the season opens.

Schierholtz signed a minor league contract with the Rangers on Friday, which includes an invite to spring training.

The Rangers are slated to go into the season with Michael Choice starting in right field, so it definitely makes sense to add a veteran corner outfielder. Schierholtz hit just .195 with seven homers and four steals in 383 plate appearances last season, so it's not surprising that he couldn't score a big league deal, but there is still a chance that he makes the team out of spring training.

Schierholtz got a start in right field Sunday, going 1-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI.

He's hitting just .182 in 33 at-bats since joining the Nationals, so even though Schierholtz will likely pick up a handful of at-bats this week as the club rests its starters before the postseason, he likely isn't worth considering for a roster spot.

Schierholtz was called up from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday.

Schierholtz will join the big club after just four games with Syracuse, filling the veteran depth role vacated by Nate McLouth (shoulder). In 99 games with the Cubs prior to his release, Schierholtz batted just .192/.240/.300 with six homers and 33 RBI, and it's hard to imagine the change of scenery will lead to a significant turnaround.

Whether and when Schierholtz gets called up to the major league roster could depend on the health of Nate McLouth, the Washington Post reports.

McLouth is currently on the DL and getting his shoulder checked out, which leaves the Nationals' bench a little short on left-handed hitting options. Should the club determine that McLouth won't be able to help them down the stretch expect him to be shifted to the 60-day DL, which would open a spot on the 40-man roster for Schierholtz.

Schierholtz agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the Nationals on Wednesday.

Schierholtz was was released by the Cubs last Wednesday, but will provide the Nationals with depth at outfield. He hit just .192/.240/.300 over 99 games with the Cubs this season, but the veteran has a good enough track record to be given a chance by the Nationals, albeit at the minor league level.

Schierholtz has been placed on release waivers, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Cubs booted Schierholtz from their 40-man roster last week after he hit just .192/.240/.300 in 99 games with the club this season. Schierholtz will become a free agent by Friday, and despite his struggles this season, he did smack 21 homers last year and may draw interest from around the league as a bench bat.
