Dodgers signed RHP Juan Abreu to a minor league contract. Abreu has posted gaudy strikeout totals in the minors, including last year while at Triple-A with the Blue Jays, but he also had a 6.80 ERA with Toronto. He'll provide minor league depth.

Juan Abreu has elected to become a free agent. Abreu refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas, opting instead to dip his toes in the free agent waters come early November. The 27-year-old right-hander posted a 6.80 ERA in 49 innings this summer in the minors.

Blue Jays claimed RHP Juan Abreu off waivers from the Astros. Abreu was designated for assignment earlier this week after posting a 7.09 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in 45 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A. He has a big arm, though, so the Jays will take a shot on him.

Astros optioned RHP Juan Abreu to Triple-A Oklahoma City. This one comes as a minor surprise, as Abreu looked like he had a legitimate chance at a bullpen spot after posting a 2.70 ERA and 12/3 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings down the stretch last season. His control is an issue, but he should be in the Astros' bullpen at some point in 2012.

Astros recalled RHP Juan Abreu from Triple-A Oklahoma City. He'll replace the injured Sergio Escalona (elbow) on the active roster. Abreu, 26, was acquired from the Braves in the Michael Bourn deal last month. He has a 2.18 ERA and 77/34 K/BB ratio over 57 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. Look for him in a middle relief role.

Astros acquired RHP Juan Abreu, RHP Paul Clemens, LHP Brett Oberholtzer and OF Jordan Schafer from the Braves for OF Michael Bourn and cash. Abreu, 26, turned in a 2.25 ERA and 68/27 K/BB ratio in 48 innings of relief this season at Triple-A Gwinnett. He's far from a top prospect, but the right-hander could rise quickly to Houston and may eventually become a quality big league setup man.
