Altuve went 2-for-5 Saturday with a three-run home run.

After hitting just seven jacks last season, Altuve is off to a quick start in the power department in 2015. If he can add even double-digit home runs to his profile, the Astros' second baseman's fantasy value would become truly elite.

Altuve, who's nine-game hitting streak came to an end Monday, delivered a clutch hit in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Mariners.

In the top of the eighth inning, the reigning AL batting champion drove in three with an RBI double off Danny Farquhar to break a tie score and give the Astros a 6-3 lead. Altuve stole third later in the inning -- his fifth stolen base of the season -- but failed to cross the plate as Houston's rally ended when Evan Gattis grounded into a double play. Altuve's clutch hit, however, sparked the Astros to their eighth win of the season.

Altuve singled, scored a run and stole a base during the Astros' 2-0 shutout of the Indians on Monday.

After ending reigning AL Cy Young award winner Corey Kluber's no-hit bid with a two-out single in the sixth inning, Altuve showcased his baserunning prowess with his first steal of the season off Yan Gomes, who ranked third in baseball last year with a 32 percent caught stealing percentage. Altuve scored moments later on George Springer's RBI single to give the Astros a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish. The diminutive second baseman is a strong bet to lead Houston in runs scored this season while ranking near the top of the AL in stolen bases.

Altuve won't play in any Grapefruit League games until Saturday, as Astros manager A.J. Hinch wants to ease his veterans into action this spring, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

The 2014 AL batting champion will be spectator for the Astros' Grapefruit League opener against Philadelphia on Thursday, as Marwin Gonzalez will man the keystone and bat second in his stead.

With two hits during Sunday's season-ending loss to the Mets, Altuve secured the AL batting title with a .341 batting average.

The 24-year-old second baseman became the first Astros player to capture the batting crown, finishing six points ahead of runner-up Victor Martinez (.335). Altuve led the majors with 225 hits, most by second baseman in a single season since 1936. His 67 multi-hit games also led the league, while his 56 stolen bases were tops in the AL. Quite simply, Altuve had one of the greatest offensive seasons in club history.

Updating a previous report, Altuve is back in the starting lineup Sunday against the Mets.

Altuve was originally in line to sit Sunday's finale, but the 24-year-old approached interim manager Tom Lawless prior to the game, and "was passionate about playing" with his batting title on the line. He'll replace Marwin Gonzalez at the keystone, presumably batting second in the order.
