Heyward is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

EDGE Analysis

Heyward will get the day off for what could be a mental break after going 0-for-9 in the first series back from the All-Star break against the Rangers, but he will most likely return to the lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the Mets. Matt Szczur will get the start in right field in his place.

It was Heyward's idea to move down in the batting order, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Heyward's thinking was to provide an experienced bat among all of the rookies near the bottom of the lineup, but he may be trying to get his own bat going as well. He went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a blowout win Monday, so the experiment worked at least in the first game. Heyward is slashing just .235/.325/.326 this season and has been the biggest disappointment on the Cubs in 2016.

Heyward will be bumped down to sixth in the order for Monday's matchup against the Reds.

EDGE Analysis

Heyward has hit out of the two-spot in three straight games, and 66 total games this year. The outfielder has even dabbled in the leadoff role, but he'll move all the way down to sixth Monday afternoon. After a dreadfully slow start, Heyward has been a bit better at the plate of late, but still owns just a .697 OPS since June 1. It's unclear at this time if this shuffle can be attributed to one of manager Joe Maddon's unique lineups, or if the Cubs are beginning to test out a longer-term idea for their batting order.

Heyward (side) is back in the lineup Friday, batting second and starting in right field.

EDGE Analysis

After missing the last two games due to some lingering soreness in his side, Heyward will reclaim his usual post in right field Friday. He'll face Mets righty Jacob deGrom, a pitcher he's gone 3-for-9 with two strikeouts against in his career.

Heyward is out of the lineup Thursday with a sore left side, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

EDGE Analysis

Heyward will now miss a second game after he experienced a little muscle tightness his last time out, but he doesn't believe the injury is overly serious and expects to be ready to go Friday. Ben Zobrist will draw the start in right field Thursday, while Matt Szczur and Albert Almora will round out the Cubs' outfield against Steven Matz.

Heyward is out of Thursday's lineup against the Mets.

EDGE Analysis

Heyward took a seat Wednesday as well, but it appears as though manager Joe Maddon is looking to go with a righty-heavy lineup once again against the left-handed Steven Matz. The trio of Matt Szczur, Albert Almora, and Ben Zobrist will occupy the Cubs' outfield for a second straight day.

Heyward is out of the lineup Wednesday against Cincinnati.

EDGE Analysis

With the left-handed Cody Reed taking the mound for the Reds, Heyward will have the day off as Chicago stacks their lineup with right-handed hitters. Ben Zobrist will take Heyward's spot in right field and be joined by Albert Almora and Matt Szcur.

Heyward went 2-for-4 in Sunday's loss to the Marlins.

EDGE Analysis

He was one of the few Cubs to have any success against Jose Fernandez on the day, notching two hits and only striking out once. It's just Heyward's second multi-hit performance in his last 12 games, a stretch during which he's hitting a weak .204 (10-for-49) with three RBI and two runs scored.

Heyward is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

EDGE Analysis

Heyward went just 2-for-14 over his last three games, so manager Joe Maddon decided to hold him out Friday and roll with an outfield full of right-handed hitters against Pirates starter Francisco Liriano. Albert Almora will get the start in right field in Heyward's place.

Heyward went 3-for-4 with two walks, a double and three runs scored in Sunday's 13-2 drubbing of the Braves.

EDGE Analysis

That's back-to-back three-hit games for Heyward, who's now hitting .325 (13-for-40) in June. His overall numbers on the season remain disappointing, but he could be about to go on a tear.
