Heyward went 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk and two runs in Wednesday's 9-0 drubbing of the Mets.

Perhaps the familiarity of Heyward's old NL East opponent has been good for him, as he's gone 3-for-9 in this series against the Mets. It's been a struggle for the 25-year-old outfielder this year, as this effort barely pushed his OPS for the season over .700, all the way to .702. It's a simple formula for Heyward right now -- with his strikeouts up and his walks down, he's largely been pressing at the plate. That in mind, he presents an enigmatic, but intriguing buy-low candidate.

Heyward is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.

With the Cardinals facing a lefty after playing a 14-inning game, this is a sensible time to give Heyward a night off. He'll likely rejoin the lineup Wednesday.

Heyward is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.

The writing on the wall has been worrying for Heyward's owners since he was dropped to eighth in the Cardinals' lineup. Now, Randal Grichuk is batting leadoff while taking over right field for Heyward. The two are likely in a platoon situation for the time being given that they are facing the left-handed David Price. This is a major hit to Heyward's value for the rest of the season.

Heyward went 2-for-3 out of the eight-hole with a two-run home run in the 10-4 loss to Detroit Friday.

Heyward has had an incredibly slow start and was moved down to the eight spot in the order with his poor play at the plate. Heyward is now batting .246, but only has a SLG of .369, so hopefully this homer is the start of a power surge for Heyward.

Heyward went 2-for-4 with two doubles in the 7-5 loss to the Pirates Saturday.

Heyward also grabbed a run and an RBI in the game and looked strong against righty Vance Worley, grabbing his two double in his first two at-bats. Heyward is off to a but of a slow start, but is always a good option when facing right-handers.

Heyward went 3-for-4 with a steal and three runs scored Thursday against the Cubs.

Heyward has been scoring a ton of runs lately -- six in the last two games alone and nine over the last four -- but he still hasn't picked up an extra-base hit since doubling on April 25. That's a 12-game stretch of singles or bust for the one-time 27-homer slugger, who's popped just two on the year and owns a miserable .352 slugging percentage.

Heyward is back in the lineup Sunday against the Pirates, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Heyward and Matt Adams were both rested Saturday with lefty Francisco Liriano on the mound, but with the Pirates bringing righty Vince Worley to the hill for the series finale, both players will reclaim their lineup spots. The outfielder was called upon to pinch hit Saturday, contributing a base hit in the sixth inning.

Heyward is not in the lineup Saturday against the Pirates, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Heyward battled some hamstring and groin tightness earlier in the week, but there's been nothing to suggest this absence is related. Rather, it seems manager Mike Matheny simply doesn't like the matchup against lefty Francisco Liriano. Jon Jay will move over to right field in Heyward's absence as Peter Bourjos steps in at center.

Heyward (groin) is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies.

Heyward will return to the starting lineup Tuesday after being limited to pinch-hit duty Monday by his groin injury. Heyward hit second in every game he appeared in prior to suffering his injury, but he owned just a .583 OPS hitting out of the two hole, so manager Mike Matheny decided to switch things up and slot Heyward into the sixth spot in the order for Tuesday's game.

Heyward (groin/hamstring) struck out as a pinch-hitter in Monday's loss to Philadelphia.

Although he was held out of the starting lineup Monday, an appearance of the bench bodes well for his chance of returning to action in a full capacity Tuesday. Mark Reynolds made a spot start in right field for the Cards on Monday in Heyward's absence.
