Jason Barlett announced his retirement from professional baseball on Friday. The club has reportedly asked him to reconsider, but the veteran infielder is expected to file his paperwork with the league. He appeared in just three games before hitting the disabled list with an ankle injury, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts.

Jason Bartlett (ankle) is set to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday with High-A Fort Myers. Bartlett has been on the shelf since April 7 with a sprained left ankle. The Twins are expected to leave him on his minor league rehab assignment for a couple of weeks so that he can work on his swing. Bartlett batted just .093 with a .245 OPS during spring training.

Jason Bartlett (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Fort Myers this week. Bartlett will work out with the Gulf Coast League Twins for a few days before officially beginning the rehab assignment. He could remain on the assignment for a while, as the Twins want him to work on his swing. "I need it," said Bartlett. "I felt good coming out of spring and, obviously, when you sit there [on the bench] you lose it. I feel good in the cage, but it's a matter of seeing something. I'm excited to get back out there and start playing every day and see if I can come back up here and help the team."

Jason Bartlett (ankle) will run the bases on Friday. If Bartlett has no soreness in his left ankle after the running, he could be cleared for a rehab assignment. It's looking like he has a good shot to return from the disabled list when first eligible.

Twins placed SS Jason Bartlett on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle. Bartlett replaced Josh Willingham in Sunday's game after Willingham was hit by a pitch. He reportedly sprained his ankle in the sixth inning, but stayed in the game through eight innings before being replaced by a pinch-hitter. In a corresponding move, the Twins recalled Chris Herrmann from Triple-A Rochester.

Twins purchased the contract of INF Jason Bartlett from Triple-A Rochester. Bartlett hit just .098 (4-for-41) with a 9/3 K/BB ratio during Grapefruit League play and hasn't played in the majors since 2012, but he still managed to win a spot on the Opening Day roster. He'll serve as a backup infielder.

Jason Bartlett will be on the Twins' Opening Day roster. Bartlett is 3-for-35 (.086) this spring in Grapefruit League play and hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2012, but the Twins will carry him north for some odd reason. He has no fantasy relevance.

Jason Bartlett and the Twins have agreed to push back his opt-out date to the end of this week. Bartlett could have opted out on Tuesday morning, but he's just 3-for-34 (.088) in the Grapefruit League and wouldn't have had much luck on the open market. The Twins will give him another few days to prove himself worthy of a roster spot. But the most likely scenario has him winding up at Triple-A Rochester to open the season.

Jason Bartlett finally picked up his first hit of the spring against the Cardinals on Wednesday. He's 1-for-27 as he competes for a utility spot after sitting out last season. He'll probably have to continue his comeback in Triple-A if he wants to make it back to the majors.

Jason Bartlett went 0-for-3 against the Pirates on Wednesday and is 0-for-17 this spring. Bartlett, taking a comeback after missing much of 2012 with a knee injury and sitting out last season, is trying to make the Twins as a utilityman. To put it mildly, it's not looking very good for him right now.
