Wheeler (elbow) is scheduled to throw 35 pitches in a rehab outing Saturday at High-A St. Lucie, ESPN's Adam Rubin reports.
EDGE Analysis
Saturday will mark Wheeler's first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery in the spring of 2015. He'll be capped at 35 pitches, so this will likely be the first of several rehab outings for Wheeler as he ups his workload. According to Rubin, the Mets will have up to thirty days to activate wheeler from the disabled list after he begins the rehab assignment, so Wheeler could conceivably be back with the big league club by early September.
