Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox have not had any discussions with Jon Lester about a contract extension.
Lester said toward the end of the season that he was open to the idea of an extension, but the topic hasn't been broached yet this winter. The 28-year-old southpaw is owed $11.675 million in 2013 while his contract includes a $13 million club option for 2014. The Red Sox have reportedly discussed flipping him to the Royals as part of a deal for top prospect oufielder Wil Myers, though nothing is considered close. Dealing him would be a pretty big gamble if they intend to contend for a playoff spot in 2013.
