Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets are "kicking the tires" on free agent outfielder Cody Ross.
The Mets are considering alternatives now that Ryan Ludwick, Nate Schierholtz and Mark Reynolds have signed elsewhere. The team remains interested in re-signing Scott Hairston, but view Ross as an upgrade. The 31-year-old batted .267/.326/.481 with 22 home runs and 81 RBI in 130 games this past season and is said to be seeking a three-year, $25 million deal. Meanwhile, the Mets are reluctant to go past two years with any free agent. The Yankees and Mariners have also been mentioned as possible landing spots.
