Maybin (thumb) will be placed on the 15-day DL on Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Maybin attempted to gain clearance for a return Monday but still felt pain in his thumb, and upon further evaluation, he was found to have a Grade 2 thumb sprain. The DL stint can be made retroactive to Aug. 4, meaning Maybin will be eligible to return as soon as Aug. 19, but it's uncertain if he'll be ready by then. A corresponding roster move was not immediately announced but look for Tyler Collins to continue on as the primary option in center field.
