Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Pirates also offered Russell Martin a three-year, $21 million deal, but he chose the two-year, $17 million pact.
Obviously, Martin is gambling that he'll perform well enough to hopefully get another multi-year contract once his two-year deal with the Pirates expires. Heyman also notes that the Rangers offered Martin a two-year deal for around $13 million. The Yankees never officially extended an offer. The backstop's deal with the Pirates should become official soon.
