EDGE Analysis
Part of Hughes' rib was removed to relieve nerve pressure on his shoulder. According to manager Paul Molitor, the procedure has "a very, very good chance of alleviating some of the things he was enduring while pitching." Hughes, who's also recovering from a fractured left femur suffered June 9, expects to be ready to go for spring training.
