Red Sox released RHP Francisco Cordero. Cordero was mulling an assignment to Triple-A but ultimately decided against it. He hasn't allowed a run in eight innings this spring while posting an 8/1 K/BB ratio, so the 38-year-old might be able to find a major league gig elsewhere. Cordero didn't pitch at all last season after putting up an ugly 7.55 ERA across 47 appearances in 2012.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington doesn't expect Francisco Cordero to accept an assignment to Triple-A. Cordero hasn't allowed a run in eight innings this spring while posting an 8/1 K/BB ratio, but it wasn't enough for him to secure a spot in Boston's bullpen. The 38-year-old is expected to opt for free agency and seek a home elsewhere.

Francisco Cordero is considering whether to accept a Triple-A assignment by the Red Sox. He'll look for a major league job elsewhere first but could remain with Boston if a big league opportunity doesn't exist. Cordero has been unscored upon in eight frames this spring, posting an 8/1 K/BB ratio, so it's possible someone else will come calling. The 38-year-old didn't pitch at all last season after putting up an ugly 7.55 ERA across 47 appearances in 2012.

Red Sox signed RHP Francisco Cordero to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Cordero didn't pitch at all last season after putting up an ugly 7.55 ERA across 47 appearances in 2012. He'll also turn 39 in May and has seen his velocity and strikeout rate dip in recent years. That said, the former closer is worth taking a shot on on a non-guaranteed deal. He'll compete for a middle relief role.

Francisco Cordero will undergo surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder later this month. Cordero never latched on with a team this winter and can now be ruled out for the entire 2013 season. The 37-year-old right-hander hopes to play winter ball and hasn't given up on eventually returning to the bigs. He posted a 7.55 ERA in 39 1/3 innings last season.

Francisco Cordero is experiencing a "cranky" shoulder. Cordero's sprained toe ligament is healed, but his season could be over because of shoulder soreness that he's developed between throwing sessions. The impending free agent right-hander won't have much of a market this winter, especially if he's unable to make it back this month.

Francisco Cordero (toe) has thrown from flat ground and is hoping to work from a mound within the next week. Cordero has been out since early August with an inflamed toe. He should be able to rejoin the Astros' bullpen in late August or early September.

Francisco Cordero has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament in his toe and is now in a walking boot. Cordero was placed on the disabled list earlier this month and could struggle to return before the end of the season. He allowed 13 hits and 11 earned runs in five innings with the Astros before landing on the shelf.

Francisco Cordero will have his right foot examined by a Houston doctor this week. Cordero has been dealing with inflammation in the sesamoid bone in his right foot for a few weeks and was finally placed on the disabled list Friday. Jeff Keppinger and Jason Castro previously dealt with a similar injury and had to have the bone removed, costing them 3-4 months of action. However, Astros manager Brad Mills said surgery is not considered an option at this point for Cordero.

Francisco Cordero (toe) retired the two batters he faced in a relief appearance Sunday. Cordero hadn't thrown in four days because of a minor toe injury. The 37-year-old right-hander has been awful so far for the Astros but figures to still get save chances down the stretch. He has a 6.75 overall ERA.
