Carerra returned to a bench role Monday as Jose Bautista returned from a turf toe injury.

EDGE Analysis

Carerra was able to capitalize on a number of injuries this season to amass the second-most plate appearances he's ever gotten in a single season. He did a fine job filling over the past four months, slashing .261/.351/.375 with 12 extra-base hits including four homers during that time. However, Toronto is too deep to afford Carerra much time when everyone is healthy, and his stock just plummeted with the return of Bautista.

Carrera (achilles) is back in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mariners.

EDGE Analysis

Carrera will play in right while leading off against Hisashi Iwakuma and the Mariners. The 29-year-old has been out since Saturday with an achilles injury, but should be ready to go after spending a week recovering.

Carrera (Achilles) is still out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners.

EDGE Analysis

Carrera has been out of the lineup since Saturday while dealing with his Achilles injury. He remains out of the lineup Friday, but it must be taken as a good sign that an appearance on the disabled list hasn't been mentioned.

Carrera is battling an Achilles issue and remains out of the lineup Wednesday, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

This is the first we've heard of the ailment, but it would explain why Carrera has not been in the lineup since Saturday. The fact that a potential DL stint hasn't been mentioned has to be viewed as a positive, and Carrera should be considered day-to-day until the Jays say otherwise. In his continued absence, the Jays will go with Darwin Barney in left field while Michael Saunders (personal) takes the afternoon off.

Carrera is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics, Sportsnet's Barry Davis reports.

EDGE Analysis

Carrera has served as the primary replacement for the Blue Jays while Jose Bautista (toe) has been on the DL, frequently slotting in as the leadoff hitter for the club. He'll just be getting the day off Sunday with a high-quality lefty in Rich Hill twirling for the A's, allowing Junior Lake to pick up a start in right field. Look for Carrera to rejoin the mix Tuesday against the Diamondbacks and continue playing on a near-everyday basis until Bautista returns, likely later this month.

Carrera has played in 64 games so far this season, and enters the break slashing .281/.370/.407 through 167 at-bats.

EDGE Analysis

Carrera beat out Junior Lake in spring training to earn the Jays' reserve outfielder role. However, during the first half of the season, the 29-year-old has become much more than a backup for the defending AL East champs. Injuries -- particularly to Jose Bautista (toe) -- have thrust Carrera into an everyday role, hitting mostly in the leadoff spot. 120 of his at-bats this season has come from the top spot in the lineup, and from there he's scored 23 of his 34 total runs. However, with Bautista just a few weeks away from returning, Carrera's fantasy relevance will wane back significantly, minimizing his value to deeper leagues.

Carrera went 1-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and two runs in Sunday's 17-1 victory against Indians.

EDGE Analysis

Carrera has seen his average drop significantly in recent weeks, and his grip on the Jays' leadoff spot is becoming a bit slippery. The outfielder's average dropped more than 70 points in June, and manager John Gibbons has already gone on record saying that he'd like to see Devon Travis take over the leadoff role at some point this season. Before making the lineup change, Gibbons wanted to give Travis time to settle in after the second baseman spent the first couple of months on the DL recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. Well, Travis has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball recently, meaning Carrera's days as Toronto's first hitter could be over in the near future.

Carrera is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox.

EDGE Analysis

Carrera had started the first two games of the series, but since he recently returned from a mild Achilles injury, the Blue Jays are likely just holding him out Sunday for maintenance purposes. It's still expected that Carrera will stick in a full-time role so long as Jose Bautista (toe) remains on the DL, and that should help give Carrera some decent short-term value in AL-only and deeper formats.

Carrera (Achilles) is back in the lineup Friday, batting leadoff and starting in left field against the White Sox.

EDGE Analysis

A mild Achilles injury kept Carrera out of the lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the Diamondbacks, but he'll draw back in for Friday's game in Chicago. In 13 starts out of the leadoff spot this season, Carrera is slashing an impressive .345/.419/.509 with three doubles.

Carrera is out of the lineup Wednesday after suffering a mild Achilles injury Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.

EDGE Analysis

According to Davis, Carrera suffered the injury when running from first to third base in Tuesday's contest. Although he's out of the lineup Wednesday, Carrera did tell reporters that he is feeling better Wednesday. With that in mind, Carrera is unlikely to miss much additional time beyond Wednesday. Owners will want to check his status when lineups are released Friday, however.
