Ramirez didn't last long in his second start, lasting four innings while giving up a single earned run and throwing two strikeouts.

While just four innings is nowhere close to ideal for a start, Ramirez will probably take it given that he allowed eight more runs in his previous start. His ERA is now "down" to 13.94 and could see more starts as long as Alex Cobb is still out and the Tampa Bay rotation is thin.

Ramirez will start Saturday against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Ramirez has had a rough start to his season thus far after three appearances coupled with a 21.32 ERA through just 6.3 innings. Nevertheless, he'll take the mound hoping to increase his six total strikeouts on the year.

Ramirez got blown up again Wednesday, lasting just 3.1 innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits and three walks against Toronto.

That's consecutive seven-run appearances to open the year for Ramirez, who nonetheless improved his ERA (a truly horrendous 23.63) and WHIP (a whopping 3.75) by lasting 1.1 innings longer than last time. Even with the Braves' marginal-to-nonexistent alternatives, it's highly questionable whether Ramirez will get another start after these two disastrous performances.

Ramirez will start Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, 620 WDAE's Steve Carney reports.

He struggled mightily in his one appearance out of the bullpen this season, but the Rays really don't have any other healthy options at the big league level. This is a desperation play by Tampa Bay, and even if he's pitching well, Ramirez will likely be limited to four or five innings as he's been working out of the bullpen so far this season.

Ramirez was torched for seven runs on six hits, walking three and striking out two over two innings of relief work in a loss to Miami on Friday night.

The recently acquired Ramirez was considered a possibility to step into this spot in the rotation, but the Rays opted to make it a bullpen game, starting reliever Steve Geltz and using eight different pitchers. Tonight's performance could have eliminated Ramirez for consideration, and in any event, it would probably be wise for fantasy owners to avoid this slot in the Tampa Bay rotation.

Ramirez will not start Friday's game against the Marlins, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.

Ramirez was considered a candidate to take a turn in the rotation Friday, but the Rays will instead turn to Steve Geltz. The game is essentially a bullpen start for the clubs, so it's possible Ramirez will make an appearance in relief.

Ramirez threw 58 pitches over 3.2 innings Saturday, but the team won't announce whether he or Matt Andriese will start their fourth game until Wednesday.

For what it's worth, Andriese threw only one inning Saturday and will be available in relief on Monday, while Ramirez won't be available until Tuesday.

Ramirez has made the Opening Day 25-man roster, but it's not clear if he'll be used in the rotation or the bullpen, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Both Matt Andriese and Ramirez made the Opening Day roster, but the team hasn't announced who will start the fourth game of the season at Miami.

General manager Matt Silverman indicated Wednesday Ramirez will be on the Opening day roster, and said he will pitch in "meaningful innings," possibly as a starter.

Ramirez was traded to the Rays on Tuesday to provide some extra depth in the rotation. However, with the impending return of Alex Cobb and Drew Smyly, it's unclear how long his run in that role will continue. It's possible he will move to the bullpen upon their return, but it's also possible he will remain in the rotation. If latter is the case, it would add a slight amount of value to the 24-year-old this season.

Ramirez was traded to the Rays on Tuesday in exchange for Mike Montgomery.

The undersized righty finds himself in new surroundings and may now have a shot at making a few starts in the big leagues in April, as Alex Cobb, Drew Smyly, Alex Colome and Matt Moore are all out of action at the moment. However, Ramirez is not a very intriguing option, and will likely just be treated as a place-holder if he is indeed given the chance to start. He has a career 4.72 ERA in 185 career innings as a starter, but he has a 3.74 ERA in 21.2 innings as a reliever, so his long-term future may be in the Rays' bullpen.
