Volquez gave up four earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three Tuesday against the Rangers.

He only made it three innings in his previous start due to a blister, so fortunately he was able to go deeper into Tuesday's game. Still, it was not a very effective showing, as he failed to record many strikeouts and also failed to pitch past the fifth inning. After a surprisingly excellent start to the season, Volquez appears to be settling in as the back-end starter many projected him to be heading into 2015. However, he does still have a good ballpark, great defense and excellent bullpen surrounding him, so his fringe ability should be maximized.

Volquez (hand) has been confirmed as the starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.

A blister on his hand limited Volquez to three innings and affected his control in his last start Thursday, but the setback will not prevent him from taking the mound Tuesday night. Volquez has been brilliant when healthy this season, but it's not clear if the blister has completely healed, so there remains the possibility it could be an issue again Tuesday night.

Volquez suffered a blister on his right thumb during Thursday's start against the Indians, but he is not in danger of landing on the disabled list, FSKC's Joel Goldberg reports.

The blister reportedly popped during the third inning of Thursday's game, which may explain why Volquez walked four batters in the frame. His stat line for the afternoon was pretty ugly, as he gave up three runs on two hits and six walks over three innings. He's otherwise been effective this season, largely avoiding the walks that plagued him in past years. Volquez's next outing is scheduled for Tuesday in Arlington.

Volquez fell to 2-3 Saturday, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks, striking out four over six innings Saturday against the Tigers.

Volquez picked up his fourth quality start in five outings this year, but was out-dueled by Detroit ace David Price, who went the distance in the evening contest. The right-hander sits with a sparkling 2.10 ERA and 0.93 WHIP on the year, as run support has been the main issue in his losses. In two wins, the Royals have produced 11 runs, but they've mustered just five total in his three defeats. The victories should soon come around for the 31-year-old Volquez, who's ERA is supported by a strong 2.73 FIP.

Volquez is no longer suspended and will start for the Royals on Saturday, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.

Volquez's suspension started Monday following his role in a benches-clearing situation with the White Sox the previous week. He'll look to continue the success he's had over the first four starts of the season, accumulating a 1.91 ERA and 0.85 WHIP with 23 strikeouts over 28.1 innings thus far.

Volquez has dropped his appeal and will begin serving his five game suspension Monday, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio reports.

Volquez received a 5-game suspension for his role in a benches-clearing situation last Thursday. The Royals appear to be attempting to limit the damage by having players take suspensions at separate times, with no word of Yordano Ventura revoking his appeal. With Volquez taking his now, it would make one less person to replace in the rotation at a time.

Volquez lost his second game of the season against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, giving up five runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

The Sox did all of their damage in the fifth inning when they proceeded to score five runs following a Mike Moustakas error. Volquez actually pitched well and only threw 90 pitches on the day despite giving up five runs, being let down by his defense and high strikeout totals. He will carry a 2-2 record and a 1.91 ERA into his next scheduled start, versus the Tigers on Friday.

Volquez will appeal the five-game suspension he received from MLB on Saturday for his involvement in Thursday's brawl with the White Sox, the Kansas City Star reports.

The Royals are pushing Volquez back a day in the rotation, so he'll start Sunday against the White Sox after Saturday's game was rained out.

Volquez has been suspended five games by MLB for his role in a brawl with the White Sox on Thursday.

He was scheduled to start Saturday, but the game was postponed due to rain. It's not immediately clear if he will appeal, but Volquez would be eligible to return Friday against the Tigers if the Royals decide to adjust their schedule. The suspension would begin Sunday if Volquez declines to appeal.

Volquez's start against the White Sox on Saturday has been postponed due to rain.

No make-up date has been announced yet, but it remains to be seen if the Royals will simply move their starters back a day and use Volquez on Sunday. It's expected that Friday's suspended game will be resumed in the ninth inning Sunday, and the regularly scheduled Sunday game will follow, so a double-header or a make-up date further down the road seems likely.
