Volquez allowed four runs (just one earned) on five hits and three walks in 5.1 innings Sunday against the Blue Jays. He struck out two en route to a no decision.

The righty cruised through five innings but was let down but the Royals' defense, as a pair of errors in the sixth inning which helped Toronto put eight runs on the board. Despite missing out on the win, Volquez finishes the first half of the season with a 3.31 ERA and a 8-4 record. He is next scheduled to start Friday against the White Sox.

Volquez gave up one run on five hits and three walks while striking out five in five innings against the Rays.

He was not terribly efficient with his pitches, throwing 101 (59 strikes) in just five frames. Still, he was able to lower his ERA to 3.40 from 3.48 and he now has 13 strikeouts over his last 10 innings, which, judging by his previous 90.2 innings this season, is unsustainable. Volquez seems to do just enough to get the ball to the Royals' dominant bullpen in his starts, and than can often be a good recipe for a win (he is 8-4 on the season). He should take the ball for the Roayls' final game of the first half Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Monday's matchup between the Rays and Royals has been postponed due to weather, Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star reports. The teams will play a split double-header Tuesday.

Volquez was scheduled to square of with Alex Colome on Monday, and both pitchers figure to have their starts moved back a day. The Royals are yet to officially confirm Volquez as a starter for one of Tuesday's games, however.

Volquez struck out three and walked one while giving up one run on three hits over seven innings en route to his eighth win of the season Friday night against Oakland.

While he didn't pile up many strikeouts, Volquez effectively kept the Oakland lineup quiet Friday night. With an excellent defense behind him, Volquez has a career-best 1.17 WHIP this season, but his peripherals are nearly identical to his 2014 marks with the Pirates when he posted 17.3% K% and 8.8% BB%. Volquez will match up with the Astros on the road Wednesday in his next scheduled start.

Volquez nabbed a win Saturday despite allowing four runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings with 0 strikeouts.

Volquez was saved from a loss by an awful outing from Rick Porcello and then had the lead preserved by another scoreless outing from the Kansas City bullpen. His record now stands at 7-4 thanks to three straight wins, but he will likely face a tough lineup in his next start Friday against the Athletics.

Volquez picked up the win to move to 6-4 as he allowed two runs on six hits over five innings. He struck out two and walked two.

Volquez was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the top of the sixth and probably had more life in him, but with 78 pitches he did enough to qualify for the victory. Volquez was shaky, however -- he had narrowly escaped a bases loaded situation in the fifth, and had already allowed two runs in the inning -- and may have been done a favor by the quick hook. He wouldn't have come out unscathed without the help of the Royals slick defense, the real key to his 3.10 ERA, but luckily for him, they're not going anywhere any time soon.

He didn't pitch all that well, but there was no margin for error for Volquez on Friday night with Chi Chi Gonzalez firing a three-hit shutout against the Royals in his second big league start. Volquez will face the Twins at Target Field on Wednesday in his next scheduled start.
