Volquez (10-11) gave up four runs on six hits and four walks over 2.2 innings while striking out one to come away with a no-decision in Sunday's win over the Tigers.

EDGE Analysis

The Royals staked him to an early 7-0 lead, but when Volquez gave most of that back in the bottom of the third he got the quick hook. He's managed just one quality start in his last eight trips to the mound, posting an unsightly 7.05 ERA and 27:18 K:BB in 37 innings over that stretch. His final start of the season is scheduled for Friday at home against the Indians.

Volquez threw 6.2 innings of one-run ball Tuesday against the Indians, giving up four hits and three walks while striking out five and taking a no-decision.

EDGE Analysis

Volquez didn't have his best command Tuesday, throwing just 61 of 105 pitches for strikes and walking three. Yet the only damage he allowed was a solo homer to Carlos Santana with one out in the third. Unfortunately the Royals managed just one run against Josh Tomlin and the Indians, so Volquez was denied a win despite yielding fewer than two runs for the first time since July 24. Volquez. It was a nice rebound effort for Volquez, who was touched up for nine runs (eight earned) his last time out against Oakland.

Volquez (10-11) lost after allowing nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings Thursday in a 14-5 loss to the A's.

EDGE Analysis

Volquez was unable to prevent Oakland from completing a four-game sweep at Kauffman Stadium. He wasn't the only Royals pitcher to take a beating, however, as the A's finished the series with 43 runs. The 33-year-old has taken a major step back in his second season with the Kansas City, as only James Shields has allowed more earned runs this year. Volquez will will try to bounce back in a tough road matchup against the Indians next Tuesday.

Volquez allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks over five innings Saturday against the White Sox while striking out one. He did not factor into the decision.

EDGE Analysis

The 33-year old Volquez has now surrendered exactly four earned runs in four of his last five starts, and his ERA and WHIP on the season have grown to 5.02 and 1.47. At this stage in his career, he can be effective, but it must be noted that he's regressed fairly significantly since 2015, when he posted a 3.55 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. His next scheduled start is September 15 against Kendall Graveman and the Oakland A's.

Volquez (10-10) allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five over 6.2 innings, but received no decision Sunday against the Tigers.

EDGE Analysis

Volquez has failed to post a quality start in any of his last eight outings, and he's seen his ERA go from 4.70 to 5.02 on the season. After posting two of the three best seasons of his career in 2014 and 2015, he's reverted back to the form he typically showed during most of his first seven years in the league.

Volquez (thumb) will move up a day in the Royals' rotation and start Sunday against the Tigers, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio reports.

EDGE Analysis

Volquez was previously slated to get an extra day of rest between starts due to the blister on his hand, but it appears that is no longer an issue, and he will pitch on normal rest Sunday in a key matchup with the Tigers.

Volquez is dealing with a blister on his right thumb, MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan reports.

EDGE Analysis

The origin of the blister is not certain, but it may have played a role in Volquez giving up four earned runs and lasting just 3.1 innings in his last start Tuesday. He should be considered questionable for his next scheduled start Monday.

Volquez allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 3.1 innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Yankees.

EDGE Analysis

Volquez's big mistake was a two-run home run by Aaron Judge, but he was behind in counts most of the night and was punished for it by Yankees hitters. He induced 10 swinging strikes in 85 pitches, but he managed just 11 first-pitch strikes to 21 batters. That kind of inconsistency has plagued Volquez his entire career. He now has a 5.01 ERA, which would be his worst mark since he posted a 5.71 ERA with the Dodgers and Padres in 2013.

Volquez (10-10) pitched five innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two Marlins in Thursday's win.

EDGE Analysis

For the first time since June 29 -- a span of 10 starts - Volquez made it through an outing without allowing an earned run, lowering his ERA to 4.88, its best mark since late-July. Thursday was a nice touch on an otherwise awful month up to this point. Through five starts in August, the righty owns a 5.81 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in five starts (26.1 innings). Volquez will make one more start before turning the calendar to September when he takes the hill Tuesday against the Yankees.

Volquez (9-10) allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on five hits and one walk while striking out three over six innings to earn the win Sunday against the Twins.

EDGE Analysis

After finishing May with a 3.74 ERA, Volquez has failed to post quality starts in nine different outings since, causing his ERA to soar to 4.95 on the year. This performance comes on the heels of him posting an ERA in the threes in each of the last two seasons, which is hardly a good sign for a 33-year old pitcher. He'll make his next start Friday against the Twins.
