Stubbs (toe) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

EDGE Analysis

Stubbs has been sidelined since late May with a sprained left toe, so he figures to spend at least most of the week with Round Rock before the Rangers would consider activating him. Even with Shin-Soo Choo (back) hitting the DL, the Rangers boast plenty of depth in the outfield, making it likely that Stubbs would be no better than a fourth or fifth outfielder for the club once he returns.

Stubbs (toe) received a cortisone injection Wednesday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

EDGE Analysis

Stubbs remains at least a week away from embarking on a rehab assignment, but since receiving the shot he's returned to all baseball activities. Of course, a cortisone shot is far from a permanent solution, but it could help to accelerate Stubbs' return to the Rangers.

Stubbs (toe) is at least a week away from beginning a rehab assignment, Ryan Posner of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Stubbs seemed destined for a toe injury at some point given his surname, and it seems that end up missing at least a month of action as a result of this. He'll be returning to an outfield that will have added Shin Soo-Choo to the current mix, making a reserve role upon his return all but guaranteed.

EDGE Analysis

Stubbs exited Sunday's game against Houston with the toe injury and it is now revealed that it is severe enough to send him to the DL. Joey Gallo was recalled in a corresponding roster move to replace the 31-year-old outfielder.

Stubbs signed a major league contract with the Rangers on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

The writing appears to be on the wall for Delino DeShields, who is slashing .226/.301/.290 in 26 games. Stubbs has not been an above replacement-level player since 2014 with the Rockies, but the Rangers apparently think he can be a net positive for them in the short term. The team's center fielder of the future, Lewis Brinson, is at Double-A, and the big league outfielders, both healthy and injured, are not center fielders by trade. Stubbs could be a useful source of steals in really deep leagues if he starts to get regular playing time, but he is likely to be a negative in batting average, and should be expected to hit near the bottom of the order.

Stubbs was designated for assignment Monday.

EDGE Analysis

Stubbs shared some time in center field with Mallex Smith while Ender Inciarte (hamstring) has been injured, but his .237 batting average hasn't exactly impressed the Braves brass very much, leading them to send him off the 40-man roster. He has a decent amount of MLB experience under his belt, so he could get swiped up by another team in need of outfield depth, although he'll likely end up in Triple-A with whatever team has him.

Stubbs is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs.

EDGE Analysis

Stubbs had started three of the last four games in center field, but manager Fredi Gonzalez will turn to the young Mallex Smith on Sunday afternoon. Stubbs does own a .641 OPS in 41 plate appearances this season, but Smith's presence in the lineup is likely just another way to get another left-handed bat in the order against opposing starter John Lackey.
