Nelson signed a minor league deal with the Nationals on Sunday, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports. Nelson won't have many avenues to the Washington infield that don't include a combination of injuries to Anthony Rendon, Yunel Escobar, or Danny Espinosa. He had a disastrous stint with Milkwaukee's Triple-A affiliate, hitting .143/.200/.243 in 754 plate appearances, but expect him to land at Triple-A Syracuse for the Nats.

The Brewers released Nelson on Wednesday. He was released by the Phillies a month ago, so he has now been let go by two of the worst teams in baseball in the span of a month, which cannot be encouraging for his long-term prospects.

Nelson is signing with the Brewers after opting out of his contract with the Phillies, Chris Cotillo of SBNation reports. It can't be encouraging that Nelson wasn't able to break into the Phillies' roster given how badly they've struggled, but he'll now try to make the majors with Milwaukee. He was okay at Triple-A Lehigh with a .278/.328/.352 slash line, but nothing to imply he can see any regular time in the majors.

Nelson was released by the Phillies on Friday, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports. The 29-year-old third baseman was languishing in the minor leagues, and may struggle to catch on with another organization in any meaningful capacity.

The Phillies assigned Nelson to minor league camp on Sunday, CSN Philadelphia reports. Nelson was 4-for-17 this spring. He was competing for a utility job with the Phillies.

Nelson signed a minor league contract with the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Nelson has appeared in 282 games at the major league level over the past five seasons, including 27 with San Diego in 2014. The 29-year-old doesn't have much power or speed to speak of, but he's a .308/.364/.479 career hitter at the Triple-A level and gives the Phillies some quality organizational infield depth.

Nelson cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Unsurprisingly, there were few teams interesting in adding the journeyman infielder to their 40-man roster during the stretch run. Nelson will likely pack it for the season and look to land a minor-league contract with an organization over the winter.

Nelson was designated for assignment Tuesday. The Padres welcomed Nelson back from paternity leave by dropping him from their 40-man roster, giving him a head start on looking for employment this offseason. Nelson will likely have to settle for a minor-league contract after slashing a pitiful .233/.296/.274 over his 81 plate appearances with the Padres.

Nelson (personal) will return from paternity leave Tuesday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Nelson was away from the team for three games following the birth of his child. Prior to going on leave, Nelson had seen semi-regular work at third base, but with Jedd Gyorko back healthy from a hamstring injury and bumping Yangervis Solarte over to third, expect Nelson's at-bats to dry up in September.

Nelson was placed on the paternity list Saturday. The timing is pretty convenient for the Padres, as they will not need to make a corresponding move to activated Nelson, assuming he remains away through the weekend. Nelson is batting just .205/.295/.231 this month and will likely continue seeing only occasional starts around the infield in September.
