Utley said Sunday that his ankle feels great, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Utley has been on the disabled list since June 24 with a sore right ankle. He recently resumed running and plans to begin hitting after the Phillies start the second half of the season Friday. He is targeting a return before the end of the month.

Utley (ankle) took ground balls at second base Friday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Utley also fielded throws at both first base and second base. He is expected to return to a part-time role when he is fully healthy. The Phillies have yet to announce an official time frame, but Utley has previously said he hopes to be back before the end of the month.

Utley (ankle) will likely have a part-time role upon his activation from the DL, the Philadelphia Daily News' Ryan Lawrence reports.

When asked if Utley would be the team's everyday second baseman when he returned, general manager Ruben Amaro did not mince words. "Not for me he's not," Amaro said. "Cesar Hernandez is our best second baseman." Those words will likely sting Utley, but it's also difficult to argue against Amaro here, as Utley was performing at below replacement level prior to being placed on the DL. Either way, it's difficult to make a case for holding Utley in most formats, while Hernandez may be worth a long-term look.

GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said Utley (ankle) may start hitting within a week, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

Utley was placed on the disabled list June 23 with inflammation in his right ankle. He hopes to return to the Phillies before the end of this month. Cesar Hernandez is filling in at second base while Utley is sidelined.

Utley (ankle) said he is hopeful he can return to the Phillies before the end of the month, the team's official site reports.

Utley received a cortisone shot last week which has given him some relief from the inflammation in his right ankle. He could start taking some ground balls at second base next weekend to test the ankle. Cesar Hernandez will continue to fill in at second base while Utley is sidelined.

Interim manager Pete Mackanin said Ceaser Hernandez, who has taken over at second base with Utley (ankle) on the disabled list, "has proven that he deserves a chance to be the everyday second baseman" for the Phillies, the team's official site reports.

Mackanin would not commit to actually making a change at second base, but his comment indicates Utley may have to split time with Hernandez when he returns to the team. If the Phillies can trade Ryan Howard that would create some addition flexibility to get Utley time at first base while also keeping Hernandez in the lineup. The Phillies have not provided an update on Utley's ankle or an estimated return date since he went on the disabled list last week.

Utley (ankle) said he was unsure how long he will be sidelined, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. "Talking to the doctor today, the more time I can lay off it, the better chance it has to heal properly," Utley said. "I don't have an exact time frame."

Utley was scheduled to get a cortisone shot Wednesday. He is dealing with lingering inflammation in his ankle that he originally injured in an offseason workout. Utley is eligible to return on July 8, but given how close that is to the All-Star break, it would not be a surprise to see him rest the ankle until at least July 17.

Utley (ankle) will receive a cortisone injection on Wednesday, CSN Philadelphia reports.

Utley was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with inflammation in his right ankle. He said the ankle, which he originally injured in an offseason workout, has bothered him throughout the season. Head athletic trainer Scott Sheridan said Utley had an MRI in mid-May which showed inflammation on the bone and a ligament that was still healing. Cesar Hernandez will fill in at second for the Phillies while Utley is sidelined.

Utley was placed on the 15-day DL on Tuesday with right ankle inflammation.

While this is disappointing on many levels, Utley had probably been doing more damage than good to fantasy rosters so far this season, and health issues were likely strongly contributing to his struggles. Cesar Hernandez and Andres Blanco should see time at second base in the meantime and Darin Ruf was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to offer depth while Utley is sidelined.

Utley is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, the Philadelphia Daily News' Ryan Lawrence reports.

Utley is out of the lineup for a third time in the last five games, with Cesar Hernandez getting another start at second base. Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said Monday that Utley's vesting option at 500 plate appearances won't affect any decisions, but the skipper also suggested he'd like to get Hernandez more at-bats. With Utley still struggling at the plate, it's not in the team's interest to put him in the lineup every day.
