McGehee will start at third base and bat seventh in the order Sunday against the Rangers.

EDGE Analysis

Since Nick Castellanos (hand) landed on the DL last Sunday, McGehee has stepped in to start all seven of the Tigers' games at third base. During that span, McGehee gone 9-for-26 at the plate, but due to his low standing in that batting order, he's accrued only two runs and one RBI. Even so, the prospect of regular playing time during Castellanos' absence at least makes McGehee worth a look in AL-only formats.

McGehee was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. He'll bat seventh in the order and start at third base in the Tigers' game against the Mets.

EDGE Analysis

With Nick Castellanos landing on the DL after fracturing his left hand in Saturday's game, McGehee will join the big club for the second time this season to add some depth at third base. Manager Brad Ausmus indicated duties at the hot corner would be shared among McGehee, Austin Romine and Mike Aviles, so none of those players will profile as a particularly attractive fantasy option unless somebody hits well enough to run away with the everyday gig.

McGehee was called up from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Tigers need McGehee to replace Nick Castellanos, who landed on the disabled list with a fractured bone his left hand. He'll need at least a month of recovery time.

McGehee cleared waivers and got optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

McGehee passed through the waiver period untouched by another club and will therefore stay with Detroit at their Triple-A affiliate. He's only made one at-bat at the major league level this season but has been impressive through 66 games with Toledo, slashing .323/.370/.440 with 32 runs and 27 RBI.

McGehee was designated for assignment Monday.

EDGE Analysis

McGehee was designated for assignment in order to make room for Dustin Molleken on both the 25-man roster and 40-man roster. The 33-year-old only had one at-bat with the Tigers, but after hitting .323 with four home runs and 27 RBI at Triple-A Toledo, he could prove valuable to a team looking for organizational depth.

McGehee's contract was purchased by the Tigers on Saturday, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.

EDGE Analysis

McGehee failed to make the Opening Day roster but has remained with the Tigers organization at Triple-A Toledo. The veteran infielder is slashing .323/.370/.440 with 27 RBI in 66 Triple-A games, and he'll now join the Tigers in what will likely be a utility role. In a corresponding move, Detroit DFA'd outfielder Wynton Bernard to clear room on the 40-man roster.

McGehee agreed to remain with the Tigers on Wednesday, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.

EDGE Analysis

McGehee was released by Detroit on Monday, but appears to be alright with playing in the minor leagues to start the season. He hasn't done it yet, but he's likely to sign a minor league contract soon and act as organizational depth going forward for the Tigers.

McGehee was released by the Tigers on Monday, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran corner infielder was a long-shot to make the Tigers' Opening Day roster, but this news makes it official. He scuffled at the plate the last couple seasons, but if a team is looking for some corner infield depth or a little pop off the bench, McGehee could find a home with them.

McGehee signed a minor league deal with the Tigers, MLive.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Coming off an ugly 2015 campaign in which he posted a .198 batting average and two home runs over 258 plate appearances, the 33-year-old McGehee had to settle for a minor league deal that presumably includes an invitation to big-league spring training. He doesn't look like a strong candidate to make the Opening Day roster, but his outlook could perhaps change if he has a nice spring and the Tigers deal with some injuries in the infield.

McGehee went 2-for-5 with one run scored and two RBI in his return to Miami against the Reds Saturday.

Designated for assignment by the Giants for a second time last week, McGehee lands back with the team where he resurrected his career in 2014. McGehee will get at least a brief look as the Marlins' everyday third baseman with Martin Prado (shoulder) on the shelf, and a fresh start should do him some good after struggling with a .213/.275/.299 slash line over 127 at-bats in San Francisco.
