McGehee agreed to remain with the Tigers on Wednesday, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

McGehee was released by Detroit on Monday, but appears to be alright with playing in the minor leagues to start the season. He hasn't done it yet, but he's likely to sign a minor league contract soon and act as organizational depth going forward for the Tigers.

McGehee was released by the Tigers on Monday, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

The veteran corner infielder was a long-shot to make the Tigers' Opening Day roster, but this news makes it official. He scuffled at the plate the last couple seasons, but if a team is looking for some corner infield depth or a little pop off the bench, McGehee could find a home with them.

McGehee signed a minor league deal with the Tigers, MLive.com reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Coming off an ugly 2015 campaign in which he posted a .198 batting average and two home runs over 258 plate appearances, the 33-year-old McGehee had to settle for a minor league deal that presumably includes an invitation to big-league spring training. He doesn't look like a strong candidate to make the Opening Day roster, but his outlook could perhaps change if he has a nice spring and the Tigers deal with some injuries in the infield.

McGehee went 2-for-5 with one run scored and two RBI in his return to Miami against the Reds Saturday.

Designated for assignment by the Giants for a second time last week, McGehee lands back with the team where he resurrected his career in 2014. McGehee will get at least a brief look as the Marlins' everyday third baseman with Martin Prado (shoulder) on the shelf, and a fresh start should do him some good after struggling with a .213/.275/.299 slash line over 127 at-bats in San Francisco.

McGehee will start at third base and bat fifth against the Reds on Saturday.

The 32-year-old signed back on with Miami earlier in the week after being designated for assignment by the Giants for a second time late last month. He doubled in a pinch-hit appearance Friday, and will slot in against right-hander Raisel Iglesias on Saturday for his first start of the year with the Marlins. It's uncertain what role McGehee will take on upon the return of Martin Prado (shoulder), who is currently on a minor league rehab assignment.

McGehee officially signed with the Marlins on Friday, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports.

McGehee posted a solid 2014 season with the Marlins, and he'll now rejoin the club. With Martin Prado still on the 15-day disabled list, the veteran third baseman could be a candidate play consistently right away. However, the lineup is pretty beat up at the moment, and he hasn't hit well this season, so expectation should be tempered for a while.

McGehee is expected to sign with the Marlins once he clears release waivers Friday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

McGehee had one of the better seasons of his career with Miami in 2014, so it looks like he'll try to find his old winning formula. His tenure in San Francisco was a disaster, losing the starting job to Matt Duffy and slashing .213/.275/.299 while grounding into double plays in more than 10.9 percent of plate appearances. He'll compete with Derek Dietrich for time at third base with the Marlins.

McGehee was designated for assignment Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of the Bay Area News Group reports.

With Matt Duffy thriving at third base and Brandon Belt entrenched at first base, McGehee has only received 17 at-bats since the Giants recalled him June 6. The team will instead use a roster spot on Ehire Adrianza, a more defensive-minded backup infielder.

McGehee was recalled from Triple-A on Friday, ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports.

McGehee did a good job at Triple-A, slashing .357/.391/.571 with two home runs in just 10 games, so the Giants rewarded him by bringing him back up. The Giants have currently been using Matt Duffy and Joaquin Arias at third base, and considering both players remain on the roster following McGehee's call-up, there could be a lot of mixing and matching going forward for the Giants at the hot corner.

McGehee accepted his assignment and was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

The Giants lost patience with the struggling McGehee, who could still contribute to the team's cause at some point before the end of the season. For now, Matt Duffy is getting the vast majority of the playing time at third base.
