Kotchman signed a minor league contract with the Royals on Friday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. Kotchman hasn't been affiliated with a team since 2013, when he played in six games with the Marlins but missed most of the season with an oblique injury. The veteran will provide organizational depth for the Royals, but it would likely take multiple injuries for him to crack the big league roster.

Marlins released 1B Casey Kotchman. Kotchman was recalled from his rehab assignment, activated from the disabled list and then cut from the 40-man roster all in one fell swoop. He has been sidelined since early June because of a left oblique strain. It's not clear what the plan is now for the 30-year-old.

Marlins placed 1B Casey Kotchman on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain. Kotchman was due for a large dip in playing time anyway with starting first baseman Logan Morrison now back from the 60-day disabled list. Kotchman suffered the injury on Saturday and will probably be out three weeks.

Casey Kotchman is nursing soreness in his ribs. It sounds like he could be headed back to the DL when Giancarlo Stanton is activated on Monday. Kotchman is due for a drop in playing time, anyway, with Logan Morrison back in action.

Casey Kotchman will be used as the Marlins' regular first baseman. Greg Doggs is headed back to a bench role. Logan Morrison (knee) isn't far from a return, so Kotchman's status as the everyday first baseman doesn't figure to last long. He's worth playing in NL-only league until LoMo is back, though.

Marlins activated 1B Casey Kotchman from the 60-day disabled list. Kotchman, out since April 4, batted .261/.320/.261 over six games during his rehab assignment. He should split time with Greg Dobbs at first base now that he's finally healthy.

Casey Kotchman (hamstring) could be activated from the disabled list on Monday. Kotchman has been on a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter, where he's batted .261/.320/.261 over six games. He should see plenty of playing time once activated, but Logan Morrison (knee) is also due back soon.

Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Casey Kotchman (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment "in the next few days." Kotchman is finally feeling improvement with his strained left hamstring. He was moved to the 60-day DL last week, though, so he won't be eligible to return until June.
