Wallace had his contract selected from Triple-A El Paso on Friday

Wallace was a non-roster invitee for the Padres in spring training, but has spent the season at Triple-A El Paso. In 61 games at El Paso this season, Wallace is batting .305 with eight home runs, 13 doubles, and 37 RBI. Wallace can add some pop to the Padres' infield. In a corresponding move, the Padres optioned Cory Mazzoni to Triple-A.

Wallace was reassigned to minor league camp Saturday, the Union-Tribune's Dennis Lin reports.

This doesn't come as a surprise as Wallace, 28, was a non-roster invitee to spring training. Look for the former marginal prospect to spend most, if not all of 2015 playing first base at Triple-A.

Wallace, a non-roster invitee to Padres' camp, could earn a spot on the bench with the major league club, Jeff Sanders of the Union-Tribune.

Wallace spent the 2014 season in the Astros and Blue Jays farm systems. At 28, he's contending for a reserve role for San Diego. Manager Bud Black was quoted as saying, "I think there's a natural hitter to this guy that might lend himself to the National League as a bench player...there's a lot to like about him." It's a tall order for Wallace to make the major league club, but if he does, he'll add some left handed power off the bench.

Wallace has signed a minor league deal with the Padres, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.

After spending parts of four seasons with the Astros major league team, Wallace spend all of 2014 in the minors with Houston and Toronto. He could offer San Diego a little power in their lineup at times this season, as he hit 13 homers and drove in 36 runs in 285 plate appearances for Houston in 2013.

Blue Jays acquired 1B Brett Wallace from the Orioles for cash considerations; assigned him to Triple-A Buffalo.

David Hall of the Virginian Pilot reported the news of the trade while Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports added the note about cash considerations. Wallace hasn't had much success at the major league level, but he was hitting .265/.329/.389 with 10 home runs in 374 plate appearances with the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate this season. This is his second stint with Toronto, as he was previously acquired from the A's for Michael Taylor before eventually being shipped to the Astros in the Anthony Gose deal. Given the injuries the Blue Jays are dealing with right now, he could see some time in the majors in the coming weeks.

Orioles signed 1B Brett Wallace to a minor league contract.

Houston decided it didn't want to keep around Wallace even if he wasn't hogging a 40-man roster spot and released him earlier this month. This is a pure minor league depth move by the Orioles. There's simply nothing left to salvage here. Wallace, a former top prospect, is a .242/.313/.391 career hitter over 1,077 major league plate appearances.

Astros released 1B Brett Wallace.

Things have gotten pretty bleak for Wallace, a player who was already designated for assignment and passed through waivers in February. Even as a non-roster player, Houston decided to pass on the former All-World prospect who is a .242/.313/.391 career hitter over 1,077 major league plate appearances. "He's been a big part of this organization for past few years, but we didn't see a role for him at the big league level," Astros GM Jeff Luhnow said. The former first-round pick will offer Triple-A depth to a new organization and not much more.

Astros sent 1B Brett Wallace outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Wallace was designated for assignment by the Astros last week and passed through waivers unclaimed. He'll be a non-roster invitee in Astros camp this spring. The former first-round pick is a .242/.313/.391 career hitter in 1,077 major league plate appearances.

Astros designated INF Brett Wallace for assignment.

The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Jerome Williams on the 40-man roster. Once a top prospect, Wallace owns a meager .242/.313/.391 batting line over 311 games in the majors. It wouldn't be surprising if someone takes a chance on him, but he remains a disappointment.
