Miller announced his retirement from baseball Thursday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
After struggling as a starter early in his career, Miller developed into one of the best late relievers in baseball in his prime. The southpaw played for seven teams across his 16 professional seasons and converted 63 of 80 save chances with 138 holds while posting a 4.03 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 612 appearances (66 starts).

Miller (foot), activated from the injured list earlier in the day, fired a perfect sixth inning in a loss to the Dodgers on Monday, recording a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander did need 23 pitches to get through a somewhat laborious inning, but the end result was certainly positive. Miller's up-and-down season includes his highest ERA (4.78) and WHIP (1.59) since 2011, so he's likely to continue operating in mostly low-leverage scenarios that will cap his fantasy value to a significant extent.

Miller (foot) was activated off the injured list Monday, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Miller wound up missing the minimum 10 days while dealing with a blister on his left foot. He'll give the Cardinals an extra left-handed option in the bullpen down the stretch, though he's likely to finish the year without a save for the first time since 2013, as he owns a 4.94 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 31 innings this season.

Miller (foot) threw a bullpen session Saturday without issues and could be activated during the coming week, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander went on the injured list with a left foot blister Aug. 28, and he appears to have a shot of being activated when first eligible Monday. Miller's standing in the bullpen hierarchy has taken a hit this season, but a player of his experience would certainly be valuable down the stretch run as the Cardinals make a postseason push.

The Cardinals placed Miller on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left foot blister, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear whether Miller will be ready to return when eligible in early September or if he'll require a longer absence while his blister heals. The lefty has been an ineffective relief option lately, allowing seven runs on eight hits in his last six innings dating back to Aug. 12. Kodi Whitley was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday in a corresponding move.

Miller has pitched to a 10.50 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 1.5 HR/9 across the six innings covering his last six appearances.
EDGE Analysis
The sample covers all but one of Miller's August appearances and represents a notable downturn for the veteran left-hander, who's been progressively phased out of later-inning high-leverage opportunities as the season has gone on. Miller has just four holds in 2021, which ranks as his fewest in a non-shortened season in which he wasn't operating as a full-time closer since 2013.

Miller, who fired a scoreless two-thirds of an inning during which he allowed two hits and recorded a strikeout in a loss to the Reds on Friday, has a 2.45 ERA and two holds across his last six appearances.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran left-hander had a nice 10-day layoff in conjunction with the All-Star break, since his last first-half appearance came July 9. With 24 trips to the mound this season, Miller is nowhere near the 73-appearance pace he enjoyed in 2019, a drop which has helped lead to a modest four holds and zero decisions thus far on the campaign.

Miller secured his fourth hold in a win over the Giants on Tuesday, allowing a hit and hitting a batter over one-third of an inning.
EDGE Analysis
Miller made his time on the mound a bit more difficult than he needed to, but he ultimately escaped unscathed. The veteran left-hander has been used to only get one out in each of his last three appearances, and he's sporting an 0.84 ERA and three holds over the 10.2 innings he's pitched since returning from the injured list in early June.

Miller fired a perfect eighth inning in a win over the Diamondbacks on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran left-hander was once again sharp, getting nine of his 13 pitches into the strike zone. Miller's efficient effort was par for the course since his return from the injured list at the beginning of June, as he now has an 0.93 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across his last eight appearances (9.2 innings).

Miller (toe), just activated from the injured list Thursday, fired 2.1 scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits, issued an intentional walk and recorded a strikeout in a loss to the Reds on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Mike Shildt wasted little time affording Miller a heavy workload after a month-plus on the shelf, and the veteran left-hander responded with an effective long-relief effort on a night where starter Kwang Hyun Kim exited after three innings due to lower-back tightness. Miller was encouragingly efficient as well, getting seven outs on just 24 pitches; factoring out his intentional walk of Tyler Stephenson, the southpaw got 16 of 20 offerings into the strike zone.
