Casilla was traded to the Tigers for a player to be named later, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports. Casilla was having a strong season for Triple-A Durham, hitting for a .315/.379/.449 slash line in 37 games. With Ian Kinsler occupying second base for the Tigers, this move appears to be to build organizational depth up the middle after trading Devon Travis to the Blue Jays in the offseason.

Casilla re-signed with the Rays on Thursday, and he will start off at Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Casilla didn't make the Opening Day roster, as the Rays settled on Logan Forsythe and Tim Beckham for infield depth, with Nick Franklin (oblique) opening his season on the disabled list. Given that Franklin isn't expected to be out for long, it may be a while before Casilla has any shot to reach the majors.

Casilla was released by the Rays on Tuesday, MLB.com's Bill Chastain reports. While Casilla is no longer bothered by his ankle, good health wasn't enough for him to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster, even with Nick Franklin (oblique) expected to open the season on the disabled list. Logan Forsythe will likely get most of the playing time at second base to start the year.

Casilla was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with a tender left ankle, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. It doesn't look to be anything serious, and the Rays are likely holding Casilla out as a mere precaution. Either way, the situation is something to keep an eye on over the next few days. In Casilla's absence, Jake Elmore will get the start Tuesday.

Casilla signed a minor league contract with the Rays on Monday that includes an invite to spring training, Casilla played in just one major league game last season, spending most of the season at Triple-A Norfolk where he finished with a .264/.315/.320 with one home run and 19 RBI. He will likely compete for an infield utility spot out spring training.

Casilla did not make the Orioles' ALDS roster but could be added for the ALCS, should the team advance, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports. Casilla was a late promotion, and the team simply didn't think he had enough games under his belt to make an impact in the opening series. He'll play in Sarasota in the meantime with the possibility of joining the team later in the playoffs.

Casilla went 0-for-4 and made an error in Saturday's loss to the Blue Jays. Casilla was a late promotion and the reason for his summoning was defense. It did not help his case that he made an error of his own Saturday. Casilla is not in Sunday's lineup as Ryan Flaherty is starting at third base.

Casilla has joined the Orioles in time for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, MASN Sports reports. Casilla was dealing with a hamstring injury when rosters expanded and the Orioles originally did not think they had a need for him, so when Casilla was healthy he was sent to the club's spring training complex. Defense has been a weakness for the Orioles at third base since Manny Machado went down with a season-ending injury. Jimmy Paredes, Kelly Johnson and Ryan Flaherty all made errors at third base this week and so Casilla is up to light a fire for the Orioles. There could even be a possibility that Casilla remains with the team for the post-season as a late-game replacement. Casilla hit .264/.315/.320 in 56 games at Triple-A this season.

Casilla (wrist) is starting a rehab assignment with short-season Aberdeen on Friday, CSN Mid-Atlantic's Rich Dubroff reports. He's been out after hamate bone surgery, but it sounds like he will be an option if the Orioles want to add some second base depth when rosters expand on Sept. 1.

Alexi Casilla will have surgery on July 1 to remove a broken right hamate bone. Casilla has spent all of this season at Triple-A Norfolk, batting .285/.346/.354 over 41 games. Obviously, he's not going to be an option for the Orioles for a while.
