Griffin (shoulder) is throwing from 80-90 feet but is still at least a week away from throwing off a mound, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Griffin continues to work on building his arm strength and it is likely that he misses another 3-4 weeks due to this injury. More clarity regarding his timetable for return should arise once he starts throwing off a mound again.

An MRI on Griffin's shoulder revealed no structural damage, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. He will be able to resume throwing once the soreness in his throwing shoulder subsides.

Competitive Edge Analysis

This comes as a big relief for Griffin given that shoulder injuries are especially concerning for pitchers. Fortunately, there is no structural damage in his shoulder, so he appears to be clear of needing any sort of procedure. There's still no timeline for his impending return, but once he resumes throwing, a potential return date should come into focus.

Griffin (shoulder) will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Griffin is still being listed on the 15-day DL with a sore right shoulder, but the results of his MRI should bring further detail to the situation. While Griffin continues to sit, Cesar Ramos will benefit from expected starts.

Griffin (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday.

Competitive Edge Analysis

One of the early stalwarts of the Rangers rotation, Griffin was forced out of Saturday's start against the Tigers in the third inning due to a stiff right shoulder, but the 28-year-old was initially optimistic he wouldn't be forced to miss further action because of the issue. Unfortunately for the right-hander, trainers determined that the injury was actually more severe than Griffin let on, so he'll be sidelined until at least late May. Alex Claudio was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move, but he'll likely serve in a relief role while Cesar Ramos looks to be the top candidate to replace Griffin in the rotation.

Griffin, who exited Saturday's start due to right shoulder stiffness, said he doesn't believe the issue is too serious, and no tests have been scheduled yet, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Jeff Wilson reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Not much has been revealed yet with regard to Griffin's shoulder issue, but given his extensive history of shoulder and elbow injuries, there is certainly cause for concern. Continue to monitor his status in the coming days for more news about what will be next for Griffin.

Griffin departed Saturday's game in the third inning due to right shoulder stiffness, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Competitive Edge Analysis

It's unclear exactly how the stiffness arose, but Griffin was escorted from the mound by team trainers after allowing four hits and three earned runs over 2.2 innings. Anthony Ranaudo entered the game for Griffin, who should be considered day-to-day.

Griffin stymied the Blue Jays on Monday, allowing just one run in six innings in a no decision. He struck out nine while allowing three hits and walking two.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Griffin has been fantastic in 2016, allowing only one earned run in three of his five starts. The righty hadn't pitched in the major leagues since 2013 due to injury, but is having no problems showing he belongs. Griffin will carry a 2.32 ERA and 1.00 WHIP into Saturday's start against the Tigers.

Griffin (3-0) allowed just one run on four hits and a walk over eight innings with five strikeouts in a dominant win over the Yankees.

Competitive Edge Analysis

Griffin was the definition of "pitch-to-contact" Tuesday night, as he induced just three swinging strikes and instead kept the Yankees off balance with picture-perfect control and a steady mix of pitches. He threw all three of his off-speed pitches (changeup, slider and curveball) at least 13 times, and all three went for strikes at least 57 percent of the time. The Yankees couldn't lock on to either his fastball (2-for-12 on balls in play) or the off-speed stuff (2-for-9). Griffin has a 2.52 ERA this year despite just 17 strikeouts against nine walks in 25 innings. So far his ability to mix his pitches has kept hitters off guard, but we'll have to see if the league adjusts the second time around. Griffin owns a 3.58 career ERA.

Griffin (2-0) allowed two runs on four hits, struck out six and walked two over six innings in a victory over the Astros on Thursday.

Competitive Edge Analysis

The 28-year-old has pitched very well in his first game action since 2013. He did give up a home run Thursday, which was a huge problem for him three years ago, but overall, he has allowed just two bombs over 17 innings. On Thursday, he induced five ground balls versus seven fly balls. Maintaining a ground ball-to-fly ball ratio close to 1.0 will be key for Griffin moving forward. He tossed up 37 homers over 200.0 innings in 2013 with Oakland.
