Ike Davis 1B PIT Dec 25 '78
According to Matthew Cerrone of MetsBlog, Mets GM Sandy Alderson stated his interest in signing Ike Davis to a contract extension that would cover the first three years of his arbitration.
Davis and the Mets avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.125 million deal this winter. Nothing is in the works yet, and it's unknown whether Davis would even be interested in signing an extension, but the Mets would be wise to explore the opportunity. The 26-year-old slugged 32 homers in 2012, despite battling Valley Fever and getting off to an exceptionally slow start. One of the most powerful hitters in the National League, Davis should be expected to post another 30-homer campaign in 2013.
