Jonathan Broxton RP CIN Nov 28 '12
Reds signed RHP Jonathan Broxton to a three-year, $21 million contract with a club option for 2016.
The deal is now official. Per Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the guarantee would jump to $22 million in the event that Broxton is traded, as his option would become a mutual option while the buyout would increase from $1 million to $2 million. It's a pretty nice chunk of change for the 28-year-old right-hander, who made his way back from elbow problems to post a 2.48 ERA over 58 innings this past season between the Royals and Reds. While it's a red flag that he's not missing as many bats these days, the current plan is to use him in the closer role next season while Aroldis Chapman into the starting rotation.
