According to CBS Sports' Scott Miller, the Cardinals "have engaged in discussions" with the Twins about the availability of left-handed starter Francisco Liriano.
Liriano is a free agent after this season and the out-of-contention Twins are almost certain to deal him before the July 31 non-waiver deadline. The Cardinals are also talking to the Rays about James Shields. Liriano, 28, has a 5.31 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through 100 innings this season.
