In the final season of the five-year, $90 million deal he signed in November 2007, Torii Hunter hasn't had extension talks with the Angels.
"I don't want to bother those guys," Hunter said. "It'd be nice (to get an extension offer) but if not, I understand. There's no rush. They have other guys like (Erick) Aybar they need to lock up. Plus they've got (Mike) Trout lying in the weeds." Hunter stressed he wants to remain in Anaheim, but sounds like a player keenly aware that his play has slipped and that he'll turn 37 in July. With Trout indeed waiting in the wings and the Angels in strong need of getting younger on offense, Hunter will likely be allowed to walk.
