Javier Vazquez tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits, in a 3-2 win over the Nationals on Tuesday night.
Vazquez struck out nine and walked none in winning his sixth consecutive start. The 35-year-old got off to a horrid start this season, holding a 7.09 ERA in mid-June, but he rebounded in a big way, especially over the last month. Vazquez went 6-0 and allowed only three earned runs in his last six starts, going at least six innings in each outing and tossing two complete games in lowering his ERA from 4.67 to 3.69. He finishes the year 13-11 with a 1.18 WHIP and all of a sudden looks like a hot free agent heading into the offseason.
