Jaso (concussion) agreed to a one-year, $3.175 million contract with the Rays on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Jaso appeared headed for a big payday in his third year of arbitration after posting a .800 OPS and seven homers in the first half of the 2014 season, but he battled concussion issues and ineffectiveness en route to a .675 OPS and two homers in the second half. Thus, he had to settle for a relatively modest bump in salary (from $2.3 million). Jaso appears primed to open the year as the primary option behind the plate, ahead of Rene Rivera, but the Rays have reportedly discussed giving him some time at first base and in the outfield.
