Coach Romeo Crennel isn't "ruling out" a return from free agent NT Kelly Gregg, who is contemplating retirement. "I think he would like to come back and play," said Crennel. "I think he likes the situation." The Chiefs have shown interest in several veterans, including Aubrayo Franklin, but they've informed the free agents that no signing will occur until after next month's draft.

Free agent NT Kelly Gregg is reportedly leaning toward retirement. Gregg hasn't made an announcement, but the Oklahoman writes that he plans to go that route. Gregg earned a Super Bowl ring as a practice squad player on the 2000 Ravens squad, then spent the next decade as a top-notch run-plugger. The 35-year-old still holds value as a situational player should he reverse gear and opt for another season.

The Chiefs will try to keep new nose tackle Kelly Gregg's legs fresh by playing him for only 25-30 snaps a game. He'll be an early-down run stuffer only, replaced in the nickel defense by a younger, more explosive player. Wallace Gilberry and rookie Allen Bailey have been the passing-down interior rushers so far in camp. Gregg is 34 with suspect knees, so it's a smart strategy. He's at his best plugging away at the run.

Chiefs signed NT Kelly Gregg to a one-year deal, a source tells the National Football Post. It's a nice get for the Chiefs after they lost both Ron Edwards and Shaun Smith in free agency. Gregg, a ten-year veteran at nose tackle, will help stabilize the point of attack in Kansas City's 3-4 and teach sixth-round rookie Jerrell Powe.

Ravens informed NT Kelly Gregg of his release. The move was made to clear $3.5 million in salary, but Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun speculates that Gregg could re-sign for a one- or two-year deal worth $1-2 million this season. The Ravens definitely want him back for a rotational role. Now 34, Gregg is going to lose his starting job to Terrence Cody.
